English Grammar Review
Modal Verbs: Would
Affirmative: I would organize a clean-up day.
Negative: I wouldn't throw garbage on the streets.
Questions: What would you do to make it a better place?
Conditional Type 2
We use "if I were you..." when we want to give advice.
If I were you, I would + bare infinitive.
Examples:
- If you worked hard, you would have a better chance of getting good grades.
- If I were you, I would quit the school team and join a local team instead.
Present Perfect Tense
Use the present perfect tense for:
- Actions that started in the past and continue to the present.
- Actions that happened in the past and we can see their results in the present.
Note: When we use "never" in the negative, we use "have/has."
[has/have + past participle]
Examples:
- I think I have seen that movie before.
- He has never traveled by train.
- Joan has studied two foreign languages.
- A: Have you ever met him?
B: No, I have not met him.
Present Perfect Simple
We use "ever" in questions: Have you ever seen sea lions?
Present Perfect: Already, Yet, Since
We use "already" in affirmative sentences.
We use "yet" in negative sentences.
We use "since" to say when something began.
Gerunds
Verbs followed by verbs in gerund (ing):
Example: I like watching movies.
Adjectives
Adjectives ending in "ed" indicate emotions.
Adjectives ending in "ing" indicate characteristics.
Examples:
- John is interested in art. Art lessons are interesting.
- Denise was bored in class. Science class is so boring.
- Luke is excited about his new job. Having a new job is always exciting; it is a new experience.
