- Over time he helped to change the way people think about preserving nature
- John Muir was born in Scotland in 1838
- When he was three he started going to school and he moved with his family to the United States when he was 11
- He explored the woods, wetlands and prairies
- He was very busy working on his family farm and exploring the wilderness so the only time he had to spend on his inventions was late at night
- A special invention is called the Early-Rising Machine
- He designed and built water wheels, thermometers, hygrometers, clocks and automatic horse feeders
- When he was 22 John left home to exhibit some of his machines at the State fair in Madison Wisconsin
