The classroom space is used properly. Everything is very well positioned, and all areas are well-utilized. The classroom is organized into distinct corners:

  • Library corner
  • House corner
  • Building corner
  • Computer corner
  • Puzzles corner
  • Artistic corner
  • English corner

Children are responsible for keeping these corners tidy and for playing appropriately, respecting the rules in each area. When children finish playing, they collect and put away all the elements of the corner.

The teacher manages the class by directing the children's attention to pictures or objects. She speaks softly, sometimes telling them she is going to share a secret, which prompts the children to lower their voices and pay attention. She also uses rapid transitions between activities to keep children engaged.

Addressing Discipline Challenges

Discipline problems have been observed. One child, in particular, presents challenges, possibly due to a lack of consistent limits and rules at home. This child may not obey the teacher and throws tantrums when denied something.

English Language Instruction

The teacher integrates English into the curriculum at specific times. English instruction includes:

  • One hour a week for motor skills
  • One hour every day for assembly
  • One hour for artistic expression

When speaking English, the teacher ensures comprehension by using an appropriate level of language and speaking deliberately. The children's native language is used most of the time, especially when explaining complex activities to ensure understanding and prevent mistakes.

The teacher allows children to communicate in their native language except when she is speaking English. Nonverbal communication is used to aid understanding when children struggle with English.

The teacher vocalizes clearly, speaking loudly and slowly to facilitate comprehension. To check understanding, she interacts with the children, asking questions in English and encouraging them to respond clearly. Students demonstrate motivation for learning English and appear to understand the teacher, responding appropriately and appreciating the opportunity to speak English.
