Load shedding has become a Gordian knot (কঠিন সমস্যা) in Bangladesh, particularly in urban areas where the population heavily relies on electricity. It signifies the discontinuation (ব্যঘাত) of electricity supply, occurring when power generation falls short of demand.

Due to rapid population growth, the demand for electricity has increased significantly, while power generation has not risen as expected. Load shedding mostly occurs during the peak hours of the day, typically from 8 AM to 11 PM.

When load shedding strikes, normal life comes to a standstill, creating problems with far-reaching consequences for the socio-economic (আর্থ-সামাজিক) development of the country. Key sectors affected include:

• Industry and Commerce: Mills, factories, shops, and hospitals cease operations.
• Daily Life: Housewives, students, patients, and workers are severely impacted.
• Technology: Electronic devices such as refrigerators, televisions, air conditioners, electric fans, computers, and hospital diagnostic devices become useless.

Mitigating Load Shedding

To alleviate this widespread suffering, two primary actions are necessary:

1. Power generation capacity must be substantially increased.
2. Citizens must be frugal (মিতব্যয়ী) and efficient in using electricity.

Urban Mobility Crisis: Addressing Traffic Congestion

Traffic congestion, defined as the blockade of vehicles on roads and streets, is a pervasive problem in urban areas.

Key Causes of Traffic Jams

A number of factors contribute to this issue:

• Unregulated Transport: Unlicensed and unauthorized rickshaws are major contributors.
• Rule Violation: Violating (অমান্য করে) traffic rules and regulations.
• Illegal Parking: Vehicles parked illegally on roadsides.
• Infrastructure Issues: Narrow roads and frequent digging for development work.
• Obstruction: Building materials piled on roads.

Impact and Solutions

Traffic congestion poses a significant threat to urban life. It consumes valuable time, preventing people from being fast and punctual in their daily activities. Office workers, school children, and critically, dying patients, are all victims of traffic jams.

Solving this complex problem requires united action. While there is no single fixed solution, effective measures include:

1. Removing shops and markets from roadsides.
2. Constructing infrastructure like flyovers in critical areas.
3. Raising public awareness regarding traffic rules and regulations.
4. Ensuring pedestrians do not cross roads in an indisciplined (বিশৃঙ্খল) manner.

The Importance of Setting a Life Goal

As the best creation of God and a rational animal, every individual living in society must have an aim in life. Without a defined purpose, progress is impossible; a person without an aim is like a ship without a rudder. A fixed goal is essential for success and helps an individual shine in life.

Choosing a Vocation: My Aspiration to be a Doctor

Planning for the future is crucial, and selecting a life goal requires careful consideration, as different people have different tastes and aspirations. While some seek money or fame, others prioritize service. My personal goal is neither wealth nor renown; I aspire to serve the people of my locality.

Bangladesh is a developing country where the living standard (জীবনমান) is often low. Many citizens lack awareness regarding basic health rules and suffer from diseases, often dying without proper treatment or medical help. Furthermore, superstition often traps the rural population.

I have witnessed firsthand the suffering of my villagers. Therefore, I am determined to become a doctor to serve my poor and often illiterate community. After completing my HSC examination in the science group, I plan to enroll in an MBBS course at Dhaka Medical College or another reputable institution. Upon obtaining the highest degree in medical science, I will return to my native village.

My plan includes setting up a charitable dispensary in the village market where I will treat poor patients without charging fees. The medical profession is arguably the noblest of all vocations; it offers the opportunity to earn both income and the love of humanity. To serve distressed humanity is to serve God. I hope to live on in the memory of the masses even after my death.

To become successful in life, every person should choose their profession carefully. I believe my choice is the best one, both for my life and for the lives of my villagers.

Basanta: Celebrating Spring in Bangladesh

Bangladesh is characterized by six distinct seasons, each possessing unique features. Among these, Spring (Basanta) is often considered the King of Seasons and is the most delightful.

The Magic of Spring Weather and Nature

Spring is the season of rebirth, rejuvenation, and renewal. It begins in the month of Falgun (February/March) and extends through Baishakh (ending in April). The weather during this period is truly magical. The bitter cold of winter recedes, replaced by a pleasant, cool breeze.

The season is marked by bright sunshine and blue skies, devoid of heavy rainfall, dark clouds, or the scorching heat of summer. Nature wears a charming look as trees and plants sprout new leaves. Flowers bloom everywhere, and the landscape turns lush green, making the entire country vibrant and colorful.

Festivals and Outdoor Activities

Spring brings a message of hope and enjoyment, accompanied by significant cultural festivals:

• Pohela Falgun: The first day of spring, celebrated with immense enthusiasm. People wear bright, colorful clothes, and streets are adorned with flowers and banners.
• Basanta Utsav: The festival of colors, also celebrated during this season.

The mild climate makes spring the perfect season for outdoor activities, including sports, traveling, and picnics. It is also an ideal time for birdwatchers, as several species of migratory birds visit the country.

Overall, spring is cherished for bringing hope, happiness, and a fresh start to everyone. Its mild weather, colorful landscapes, and festive celebrations solidify its status as one of the most loved seasons in Bangladesh.
