CA4 - Storytelling Part 2

He found an address, "234-45 Uocston Street", immediately he dressed up and took a taxi. He quickly arrived at his destination. The building was rounded and tall, with a bright blue color; it was amazing, fascinating. The doors opened automatically, and Bernard came in slowly, looking around with all his attention. He saw a crystal table in the background with a pretty blond girl. He asked for the numbers 45 found in the "X" folder. The receptionist pushed a button, and suddenly two crystal doors opened, giving way to an elevator.

Bernard arrived at the 45th floor and saw huge showcases containing frozen human bodies. He recognized Walt Disney, Marilyn Monroe, and Elvis Presley among them. A man was approaching him, extended his hand, and said: "Welcome Bernard, I thought you would never come".

Bernard turned pale as he realized the person actually knew him.

"I'm Dr. Ethan Miller, and I know you came here looking for some answers."

Bernard asked him about his dreams and why he had always felt different as a child. Ethan told him to get closer, stared at him, and started to tell the story.

"My job is about artificial intelligence and its use in society. Many years ago, the government passed a law allowing bionic chips to be modified and implanted in a human brain. That's why nowadays, many humans live together with androids, robots, or other humans who have some kind of robotic gadget inside. This has implied a massive change in society, and currently, androids even have social rights. But yours was the case that would definitely shake up my career."

At that moment, Bernard felt afraid and threatened by such words. Ethan continued speaking.

"Your mother came to me, Bernard. She was desperate because she couldn't have any children. By that time, I was developing a new technology that was going to change the world forever. We had assured that robots learn by themselves and have their own consciousness. This AI has been developed so much that a robot is practically similar to a human, but I went one step further. I took the AI to the cellular level, and through nano-robots, I managed to turn your mother fertile. We could consider, Bernard, that you are a new species. Half of your DNA has human components, while the other half is biotech. That's why you have such strange dreams and such great intelligence. With you, I was able to create pure autonomy for androids. As you were half human, half android, you could have descendants both with humans and with androids that were previously prepared for that. Many more came after you, but you are the first one."

The problem was, in Ethan's words, that although the government had passed that law, it was really hidden from society. Bernard was stunned. He felt like crying. He wasn't able to comprehend everything Dr. Miller was telling him. He screamed, looked into the doctor's eyes, and suddenly started running towards him.
