Superstitions: Beliefs and Personal Experiences
Here I will discuss superstitions. But first, I will explain what a superstition is. A superstition is a belief held by many people, though dismissed by many others. Many superstitions are based on something that could bring luck or bad luck to the person who believes in them or not. I believe in superstitions because:
Personal Anecdotes Supporting Beliefs
- First, many people say that if you step in something unpleasant on a Tuesday, you will win the lottery. One Tuesday I stepped in something unpleasant and I won the lottery that week. Is it a coincidence of life? I do not know. The only thing I know is that this superstition came true.
- Secondly, many people talk about a bad superstition that can happen when a black cat crosses ahead of you. This may seem like a silly superstition, but one day I crossed a cat and I had a car accident. Again, maybe coincidences of life? I do not know; the only thing that I know is that this superstition came true too.
Many people do not believe in superstitions until they experience one. I am one of these people; before, I did not believe in superstitions until I came across the two previous instances.
Organizing: Demonstrations and Their Impact
Going on demonstrations is a very usual thing currently. Many people complain in demonstrations about things that go against their principles. But are demonstrations a waste of time or not?
Arguments For Demonstrations
On one hand, I think demonstrations are not a waste of time because in them, people fight for their principles and against actions the state and the government made that harm millions of people. For example, now many teachers take the streets to express their opposition to the lowering of salaries and the increasing number of students per class. So, many people take to the streets to prevent more cuts and to get improvements in the situation.
Arguments Against Demonstrations
But on the other hand, I think demonstrations are a waste of time because most times we do not achieve anything. The only thing you get is losing a full day; the workers and the students lose hours of work or class. And finally, many demonstrations end up with confrontations and the arrival of the riot police.
In conclusion, if the demonstrations lead to something positive, they are not a waste of time, but if the demonstrations are useless, then they are a waste of time.
