Argumentative Text

Subject: The subject on which the question is presented in the argumentative text. The matter should be contested in a manner that is easily approached from different points of view.

Thesis: The position on the subject that the issuer adopts.

Arguments: The reasons the issuer provides to defend their opinion or thesis.

Conclusion: A summary of the basic ideas provided in the intervention.

Purpose of an Argumentative Text: To defend an opinion and persuade the reader.

The Debate

A debate is an oral argumentative essay in which there are two opposing views on a controversial issue, and in which each party defends its point of view. For a debate, there should be a moderator who is responsible for establishing speaking turns and ensuring respect for the opinions of those involved.

Journalistic Texts

Journalistic texts are intended to inform.

Basic Principles:

• News: News reports on issues that are new or recent. If facts addressed in previous treaties should provide new data.
• Objectivity: The facts stated must be accurate and should be treated objectively, avoiding any personal opinion or social value judgment.
• Relevance: Items must be of general interest; there is deemed necessary to extend to the whole population.
• Comprehensibility: For these texts to fulfill their function of information, the format and language used should be accessible to the different profiles that make up the set of receivers.

Objectivity in Journalism

In the news, the referential function of language predominates, which deals with giving information about reality. In the event of information, the journalist is the bridge between reality and the recipient. The recipient does not have rapid access to that reality, and therefore, the issuer provides them with an agreement by which it is assumed that this information is accurate. It is the duty of the professional to transmit the operation truthfully.

The Generation of '98

The Generation of '98 was a group of writers who started publishing in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Important authors include José Martínez Ruiz, Pío Baroja, and Antonio Machado. Miguel de Unamuno's novels always deal with personal issues such as the meaning of life, the subject of Spain, and the existence of God.
