Telecom Cables, Fiber Optics, and Satellite Communication

Technology2.95 KB

Coaxial Cable Specifications

A coaxial cable features a copper connector at its center, covered by an insulating layer, then a layer of armor, and finally an outer coating layer. It uses BNC connectors (type and tipoF). Coaxial cables are not very flexible, support speeds of 10 Mbps, and require a connection to ground.

Uses and Applications of Copper Wires

  • Coaxial Cable: Used in radio frequencies modulated as cable TV.
  • Twisted Pair: Used for data transmissions and VoIP.

Fiber Optic Cable Elements

  • Core: The element that transmits light, located at the center of the fiber optic cable (FOR). The core is made of silica or glass.
  • Cladding: Covers the core.
  • Buffer: Helps protect the core and cladding from damage.
  • Resistant Material: Prevents the buffer surrounding

Hydraulic Systems: Components, Functionality, and Maintenance

Technology4.17 KB

Hydraulic Systems

Storage

Fluid storage tanks are constructed of steel plates and brackets to contain fluid, sediment, and contaminants, and to dissipate generated heat. These tanks are typically coated with water-resistant paint. The bottom of the tank should be sloped with a drain plug for vacuum cleaning. Lids, vents, and air filters prevent the entry of impurities. Baffles within the tank prevent turbulent flow, allowing sediment to settle, separating air from the fluid, preventing foaming, and dissipating heat. Tank capacity should be 2-3 times the pump supply group capacity. Tanks should also have a sight glass, suction line, return line, and drainage.

Filtration

Filtration is the mechanical or physical process of separating materials using...

How to Check Your Vehicle's Oil Level

Technology988 bytes

To find out whether your vehicle needs oil, follow these steps:

  1. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it off on a clean lint-free rag (be sure the engine is cold).
  2. Insert the stick back into the pipe.
  3. Pull the dipstick out again and look at the film of oil on the end of the stick.
  4. Put the dipstick back into the pipe. You're done!

Specifications:

Two-door, mid-engine, four-wheel drive sports car. The engine is a 6.2-liter V12 with 571 bhp. The acceleration is 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds with a top speed of 205 mph. The doors do not open conventionally.

Abbreviations:

  • FWD: Front Wheel Drive
  • bhp: Brake Horse Power
  • g/km: Grams per Kilometer
  • gdi: Gasolina Direct Injection
  • MPG: Miles per Gallon
  • MPH: Miles per Hour
  • NM: Newton Meters
  • RPM: Revolutions per Minute
  • RWD: Rear Wheel

Essential Electronic Components: Relays, Capacitors, and More

Technology2.86 KB

Essential Electronic Components

Relays

Relays are components used to control a high voltage current by means of a small current applied to a coil. When an electric current passes through the coil, it acts like an electromagnet and attracts a movable piece of metal that closes two contacts. If an electric current doesn't flow through the coil, the central contact stays joined to the contact on the left.

Capacitors

These are components that can store electric charge. They are made of two conductive plates separated by a non-conductive material called a dielectric. There are two kinds of capacitors: electrolytic and non-electrolytic capacitors. Electrolytic capacitors have terminals of different lengths, while non-electrolytic capacitors have terminals...

Metal Properties: Oxidation, Strength, and More

Technology4.47 KB

Metal Properties: An Overview

Oxidation: A chemical reaction where a substance combines with oxygen, often leading to corrosion in metals. While corrosion can be detrimental, it can also form a protective layer on some metals. The process may slow down or stop as the protective layer develops.

Corrosion: The gradual deterioration of metals due to a combination of oxygen and moisture, or chemical reactions with acids.

Mechanical Properties

Strength: A metal's ability to resist breakage or deformation under stress.

Elasticity: The property of a metal to return to its original shape after being deformed.

Yield Strength: The maximum force a material can withstand without permanent deformation.

Modulus of Rupture: The relationship between applied stress...

Computer Crime

Any illegal or unauthorized behavior in connection with computers and computer networks. Examples of computer crime include:

  • Computer sabotage
  • Unauthorized access
  • Computer forgery
  • Damage to computer data or programs
  • Computer fraud
  • Computer espionage
  • Unauthorized use of a computer
  • Unauthorized use of a protected computer program
  • Hacking

Software Sabotage

Viruses and other invaders. Also sabotage of hardware or software. Modern computers saboteurs commonly use software. The name given to the saboteurs destructive programs are: Viruses, Worms and Trojan horses. They mimic the behavior of living organisms.

Benefits of Recycling Different Materials and Water Intoxication Symptoms

Technology2.18 KB

STEEL

Scrap can be sorted easily using magnetism. If the metal is galvanized (coated with zinc), the zinc is fully recyclable. If it is stainless steel, other metals mixed with the iron, such as chromium and nickel, can also be recovered and recycled.

GLASS

Sorting is critical, as there are key differences between the clear and colored material used in bottles and jars, and the high-grade material used in engineering applications, which contains traces of metals.

COPPER

Scarcity makes recycling especially desirable and justifies the cost of removing insulation from electric wires, which are a major source of scrap. Pure metal can also be recovered from alloys derived from it, notably brass (which also contains quantities of zinc and often lead)...

Continuously Variable Transmission Mechanics and Benefits

Technology2.82 KB

The Evolution of Continuously Variable Transmissions

The Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) is widely used in mopeds. It also began being used in cars in the 1960s, though it has not had much success until recently. In theory, CVTs are ideal as they vary the speed ratio continuously; thus, we can describe it as an automatic transmission with an infinite number of gear ratios.

This feature allows the vehicle to move along the curve of maximum power, which is impossible with automatic or manual gearboxes that produce steps or jumps between different speeds.

How the CVT Pulley System Works

A CVT is a system featuring two pulleys whose effective inner diameters are variable. The transmission between the two pulleys is achieved via a belt made...
