Objectives of the Physical Education Curriculum

Based on Decree 286/2007 of 7 September, which establishes the curriculum for primary education in the Autonomous Region of Murcia, the Physical Education area aims to develop the following capabilities:

  • 1) Know and value the body and physical activity as a means of enjoyment, relationship building, and a resource for organizing free time.
  • 2) Appreciate physical activity for well-being, showing a responsible attitude toward oneself and others while recognizing the effects of exercise, hygiene, nutrition, and postural habits on health.
  • 3) Utilize physical and motor skills, along with knowledge of body structure, to adapt movement to specific circumstances.
  • 4) Acquire, select, and apply principles and rules to solve motor problems and act effectively and autonomously in physical, sports, artistic, and expressive activities.
  • 5) Perform sports and physical activities independently, emphasizing effort, skill, and ability.
  • 6) Regulate and dose effort, reaching a level of self-consistency while developing attitudes of tolerance and respect for the limitations of others.
  • 7) Use expressive resources of the body and movement in a creative and aesthetic manner to communicate feelings, emotions, or ideas.
  • 8) Develop personal initiative and the habit of teamwork, accepting established norms and rules.
  • 9) Participate in physical activities by sharing projects and establishing cooperative relationships to achieve common goals.
  • 10) Value diversity, physical activity, recreation, and sports as essential cultural elements.
  • 11) Engage with the natural environment creatively and responsibly, recognizing the importance of its protection and improvement.
  • 12) Promote reading comprehension as a tool for searching, exchanging, and understanding the rules of play.
  • 13) Use information and communication technologies (ICT) as a resource to support the subject area.
  • 14) Learn and practice traditional and popular sports in the Region of Murcia to understand their historical significance.
