Macroeconomic Stability and Environmental Impact on Global Investment

Macroeconomic Environment Stability

For a foreign investor to decide to establish operations in a country, successful achievement of macroeconomic objectives is necessary.

Fighting Corruption

Fighting corruption is a scourge that represents the fastest way to get rich in countries where earning a living through honest and productive economic activity is replaced by gaining influence in the bureaucracy.

External Accountability

Some theorists argue that the poverty of poorer states is a direct consequence of the behavior of the wealthier nations. The major cause of underdevelopment in many countries today was the severe colonization they were subjected to.

The International Economic Environment

Some states fall into what are called poverty circles. These are unproductive countries where workers have low incomes. This prevents savings, which affects a lack of investment and low productivity. Poor countries face great pressure to grow as quickly as possible.

Economy and Environment

Economic Growth and Environmental Damage

High global economic growth can only function thanks to high consumption of natural resources. The resulting environmental damage is alarming, and many resources are being depleted.

Consumption and the Environment

Global consumption is not only exaggerated but also clearly unbalanced and inequitable. Rich countries, accounting for 20% of the world's population, account for 86% of global consumption, while the remaining 80% of the population consumes only 14%. These differences suggest that we could hardly adopt our current consumption patterns for the entire world population.

Negative Effects of Economic Activity and Consequences

Certain environmental problems directly impact the economy. If not combated effectively, our resources will be reduced or degraded, which will negatively affect future production:

  • Desertification: Affects the African continent, reducing natural resources that can compromise a nation's future production possibilities.
  • Reduction of Biodiversity: Many living species become extinct before we know all their potential uses in producing medicines and foodstuffs.
  • Waste Generation: Producing waste incurs major treatment costs and requires more active measures to exploit them as new resources for producing new goods.
  • Pollution of Seas and Rivers: Much of the water we consume and many of the foods we eat come from rivers and seas.

Greenhouse Effect and Climatic Change

The global warming that our planet is experiencing will have significant economic consequences.
