Hydroelectric Power Generation

When the dam gates open, water falls from a great height, passing through pipes to spin a turbine at high speeds. This mechanical energy powers an alternator to generate electricity. Some plants also utilize pumped-storage systems to manage energy production at night.

Solar Thermal Energy

Solar thermal power functions similarly to conventional thermal power plants by generating steam to move a turbine-generator group. The key difference is that the energy is provided by the sun, using mirrors or heliostats to focus solar radiation.

Photovoltaic (PV) systems are categorized based on their connection to the power grid:

  • Isolated Systems: Designed for homes without electricity, streetlights, and small machinery. These require battery storage to ensure a consistent energy supply.
  • Grid-Connected Systems: Photovoltaic modules feed electricity directly into the electrical grid.
  • Large-Scale Solar Farms: Installations designed to produce significant quantities of electrical energy.

Disadvantages: Chemical waste concerns and storage limitations.
