Globalization and the Evolution of Modern Technology
Globalization and Internationalization
The globalization we are living in is an ongoing process of internationalization, and this process will call for a more connected world known as globalization. We are fundamentally more independent. This globalization process occurs in developed countries. Consequently, there is an anti-globalization movement. Tension, happiness, and justice are part of globalization; economic progress has led to a debate between what is and what can be done regarding the moral possibilities of the technique.
The Concept of Technical Activities
The technical activities. The term technique comes from Greek and means an activity directly based on an extensive knowledge of rules to produce a concrete product. There are many meanings that characterize a technique according to the context (e.g., technical careers). It also supposes the subject's ability to modify the environment for themselves and to use different knowledge and instruments for it.
Characteristics of the Technique
- Adaptation of the subject to the environment: Thanks to this, we can adapt and live in any part of the world.
- An environmental adaptation to the subject: The technique helps us to modify the environment for our own benefit.
- A continuous activity development: Human beings imagine ways to achieve what they want and invent new needs.
Stages of Technical Development
Technical Development: Ortega y Gasset explained a series of stages that reflect the evolution of the various epochs from the point of view of work and technique.
The Three Stages of Evolution
- 1st Stage: The era of the technique of chance. We find that there is little ethics. Inventions are the result of luck, and people are not aware that it is an improvement.
- 2nd Stage: The era of the artisan. There is tremendous growth in the technique, resulting in specialization. We find different professions, such as farmers and cooks. People begin to be aware of the technique.
- 3rd Stage: The technique pervades the whole of technical life. There is a continuous process of invention with quick changes and products that become obsolete very soon.
Technology in the Modern World
Definition of Technology: We define technology as the great set of complex procedures that characterize the technique since the 18th century. Technology has invaded our lives and it has become imperative.
Effect on Productive Activity
Advantages:
- Efficiency and productivity: With the technique, we produce more and better.
- Humanization of work: Heavy tasks are removed from man.
- Increased leisure time: Thanks to the technique, work is done faster and the workday is shorter.
Disadvantages:
- Overproduction and consumption: Producing more and generating excess.
- Dehumanization: Work sometimes turns the person into a slave of machines.
- Techno-ethics: Science claims to be neutral and outside ideologies, but we must question whether this technique is in the service of certain interests.
