Fundamental Geometric Elements
- Point: Has no dimensions and is determined by two intersecting lines.
- Line: A point in motion. If the direction remains constant, it is a straight line; if it changes, it is a curve. Lines have one dimension: length.
Types of Lines
- Straight Line: Generated by a point moving in a constant direction. It has unlimited length, and its points are aligned.
- Ray: Any point P on a line divides it into two parts called opposing rays.
- Segment: A part of a line bounded by two points.
- Curve: Generated by a point moving while constantly changing direction. It has unlimited length.
- Arc: A piece of a curved line bounded by two points.
Planes and Volume
Plane
A surface formed by a straight line moving in a direction other than its own. It has two dimensions: length and width. Elements within the same plane are called coplanar. A plane is determined by:
- Two intersecting lines.
- A line and a point.
- Three non-collinear points.
- Two parallel lines.
Volume
Formed by moving a portion of a plane in a direction that does not belong to that plane. It has three dimensions: length, width, and height. A cube is a primary example of volume.
Shapes and Boundaries
- Shape: A set of points, lines, and surfaces that determine a form.
- Flat Figures: Two-dimensional shapes.
- Volumetric Figures: Three-dimensional shapes.
- Perimeter or Outline: The line that defines the outer limits of a figure. (The contour is restricted to volumetric figures.)
- Surface: The locus of positions of a line moving in space according to a specific law.
Geometric Properties and Locus
A line has a direction and two orientations. The first point is the origin, and subsequent points are successive, making the line ordered.
- Locus: A set of elements that meet the same property or condition. Elements may be equidistant (equally distant) or equiangular (having equal angles).
- Angle Bisector: The locus of points on a plane equidistant from the sides of an angle.
- Perpendicular Bisector: The locus of points on a plane equidistant from the extremes of a segment AB.
- Circle: The locus of points on a plane equidistant from a center point O at a distance r.

- Axioms: Properties relating concepts that are accepted without proof.
- Theorems: Properties derived from axioms through logical proof.
