Connecting Two PCs via Parallel Port (LPT1)

Step 1: Create a New Connection

First, ensure the cable is securely connected to the parallel ports of both PCs and power on both computers. On the host computer, click the Start button and open the Control Panel. Select the Network Connections icon, then click Create a new connection in the popup window.

Step 2: Configure the Host Computer

The New Connection Wizard will appear:

  • Click Next.
  • Select Set up an advanced connection and click Next.
  • Choose Connect directly to another computer and click Next.
  • Select Host to designate this as the computer you want to access, then click Next.

Step 3: Set Up User Permissions and Sharing

After selecting the host, choose the connection resource from the dropdown menu: Direct Parallel (LPT1). Click Next to grant user permissions:

  • Click Add User, enter the username and password for the guest PC, confirm the password, and click OK.
  • Click Next and then Finish.
  • To share folders, right-click any disk or folder in My Computer, select Sharing and Security, and enable Share this folder. Repeat this for all folders you wish to make available to the guest PC.

Step 4: Configure the Guest PC

On the guest PC, repeat the first two steps used for the host. However, when prompted in the New Connection Wizard, select Guest instead of Host. Enter the computer name of the host PC. If you are unsure of the name, right-click My Computer, select Properties, and check the Computer Name tab. Click Next to continue.

Step 5: Establish the Connection

On the next screen, select Direct Parallel (LPT1) and click Next. Click Finish to open the Connect dialog box:

  • Enter the username and password created in Step 3.
  • Optionally, check Save this user name and password.
  • Click Connect.

The two computers will now be connected. You will see a corresponding icon in the system folder and a new entry in the Network Connections section.
