  • Natural Materials: Found in nature.
  • Manufactured Materials: Obtained after an industrial process.
  • Recycled Materials: Can be reused after initial use.

Material Families: A Technological Perspective

From a technological point of view, materials are categorized into five main families:

  • Wood: Includes all types of wood, paper, and cardboard.
  • Metals:
    • Natural: Such as iron (Fe), tin (Sn), aluminum (Al), copper (Cu), gold (Au), silver (Ag), platinum (Pt), lead (Pb), and zinc (Zn).
    • Artificial (Alloys): Like steel (Fe+C), bronze (Cu+Sn), or brass (Cu+Zn).

Levers, Pulleys and Gears: Mechanical Systems Summary

TechnologyUpdated on 3.39 KB

Mechanisms

Mechanisms are components used to transmit or transform movement. They can transmit linear motion, used for raising objects, or circular motion, used to change speed.

Levers

A lever is a rigid bar that pivots around a fixed point called a fulcrum. One end of the lever applies a force, while the other end moves a resistance.

Types of Levers

Depending on the positions of the fulcrum, force, and resistance, there are three types of levers:

  • First-Class Lever

The fulcrum is located between the force and the resistance. Example: Scissors, which are essentially two first-class levers joined together.

  • Second-Class Lever

The resistance is located between the fulcrum and the force. Example: Wheelbarrows.

  • Third-Class Lever

    The force is located between

Computer Graphics: Evolution, Systems, and Display Tech

Technology11.42 KB

Introduction to Computer Graphics

Computer Graphics (CG) is the art and science of communicating information or ideas through digital images. It involves the generation, representation, manipulation, and display of pictorial data using computers. From simple 2D line drawings to hyper-realistic 3D animations, computer graphics has transformed how we interact with technology.

History of Computer Graphics

The evolution of computer graphics spans several decades, moving from massive, specialized military systems to ubiquitous, high-powered mobile chips.

1. The Early Beginnings (1950s)

  • MIT’s Whirlwind (1951): One of the first computers to use a CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) display to output real-time data, paving the way for visual computing.
  • SAGE System

Understanding Mechanisms: Types and Applications

Technology3.83 KB

Mechanisms

Mechanisms are devices that transform movement. They can change the speed, direction, force, or type of movement.

Belts and Pulleys

A belt passes around two pulley wheels. If the driver wheel moves, it moves the belt, and the belt moves the driven wheel.

A pulley is a wheel that turns when a rope, belt, or chain passes through it.

Levers

The lever is a basic mechanism. It's typically made of a bar of wood or metal that pivots around a fixed point called a fulcrum.

  • First-type lever Examples: Scissors, pliers, bottle opener, seesaw.
  • Second-type lever Examples: Wheelbarrow, paint chippers, nutcrackers.
  • Third-type lever Examples: Catapult, baseball bat, human arm.

Effort x Effort arm = Load x Load arm

C++ Functions and Structures: A Comprehensive Guide

Technology6.26 KB

Function Definition

A function definition in C++ consists of the statements that constitute a function. It includes:

  • Name: The identifier of the function.
  • Parameter List: Variables enclosed in parentheses that hold values passed to the function.
  • Body: Statements within curly braces that perform the function's task.
  • Return Type: The data type of the value the function returns (e.g., int, double, void if no value is returned).

Function Header

The function header declares the function. It consists of:

  • Return Type
  • Name
  • Parameter List

For example: void evenOrOdd(int num). Note that there is no semicolon at the end of the header.

Function Return Type

  • If a function returns a value, the return type must be specified (e.g., int main()).
  • If a function doesn't return

Mastering 555 Timers, CD4510 Counters, and Digital Logic

Technology3.97 KB

The Versatile 555 Timer IC

The 555 timer is a highly versatile integrated circuit that can be configured in various ways using external components, primarily as a monostable (one-shot) or astable (free-running) multivibrator.

555 Monostable Configuration

In a monostable configuration, the circuit's output is initially low (zero). The internal discharge transistor is saturated, preventing capacitor C1 from charging. However, when a negative pulse is applied to the trigger terminal (pin 2), it causes the internal RS flip-flop to change its output state, turning off the discharge transistor. This allows capacitor C1 to charge through the external resistance R1.

When the voltage across the capacitor exceeds 2/3 of the supply voltage, the flip-flop...
