Semiconductor Physics: Conductivity, Diodes, and Transistors

Technology3.12 KB

Metals are very good conductors of electricity and high conductivity is due to the fact that there are e-free in the last layer of atoms, which can move freely between the atoms of metal.

In the Ag and Cu, in the last layer is a single e-, as it is somewhat linked to the core, moves haphazardly within the solid metal.

Between metallic conductors and insulators are semiconductor bodies, so named because they are worse drivers than metals, but better in the insulating gral.

The most important semiconductors Ge and Si, and in its latest report 4 e-coat.

For the study of semiconductors, we will focus on the covalent bond, characterized in that the valence e-are shared two to two adjacent atoms.

A crystal of Ge and pure Si no free electrons and...

Autoclave and Ethylene Oxide Sterilization Methods

Technology2.95 KB

Autoclave: Moist Heat Sterilization

Autoclave sterilization utilizes moist heat to effectively destroy spores, fungi, bacteria, and viruses. This process requires temperatures above 120°C. The autoclave chamber features a thick, stainless steel wall and a sealing lid. It includes a pressure gauge to monitor temperature and pressure, and a safety valve that activates when pressure reaches a dangerous level. A key controls the steam vent, enabling cooling. The tank contains water up to a specific level and a grid for placing objects. Heating can be electric or gas-powered.

Sterilization Phases in the Autoclave Process

Conditioning

Objects are placed on the grid, the lid is closed, and the vent key is opened.

Exposure to Vapor

The vent key is closed,...

Aluminum

Alumina Reduction Process

The reduction of alumina is a process conducted in steel cells, where carbon blocks act as anodes.

Aluminum Alloys

Aluminum is alloyed with elements such as copper, zinc, magnesium, manganese, and silicon to enhance its properties.

Aluminum Applications

Aluminum is widely used due to its unique properties:

  • Reduced Density

Ideal for aerospace, automotive, and railway industries due to its lightweight nature.

  • Good Electrical Conductivity

Utilized as conduits in high-voltage overhead power lines.

  • Corrosion Resistance

Used for manufacturing tanks for substances like acetic acid and beer.

  • High Reflectivity

In powder form, it's used for making reflective paints due to its high reflectivity.

  • Oxygen Affinity

    Acts as a reducing agent

Core Functions of Operating Systems

File System Structures and Types

A file system is the way information is organized and structured. Each operating system uses its own specific file system.

  • FAT32: The number 32 indicates that allocation units are used in 32 bits. This file system was used in earlier versions of Windows and is currently utilized in many storage units that employ flash memory. Both Windows and GNU/Linux can read and write to units using this file system type.
  • NTFS: This is the standard file system for all modern Windows versions, designed for use on large partitions.
  • EXT3: This file system is used in most distributions of GNU/Linux. Windows operating systems are unable to read or write to this file system natively; however, applications

Steel Production: From Pig Iron and Scrap to Finished Products

Technology10.95 KB

Slag and pig iron pass through an LD converter for forming into steel ingots. Around this ring furnace, wind is extracted by hot air.

Operation of the Converter

The converter leans over the oven, and flux and sometimes cast iron scrap are added. It is then set to vertical, and a lance is lowered to inject oxygen into the molten metal. The impurities are burned. The converter leans out of the furnace, and the slag that floats on the steel is poured over the spoon. Alloys and carbon are added.

Obtaining Steel Through Scrap

To convert scrap steel, an electric oven is used. Its most important parts are:

  • Electric transformer: Transforms alternating current to direct current and voltage to 900V.
  • Arms of the electrodes: The electrodes can approach or move

Capacitance and Capacitors: Farads, Dielectrics & Current

Technology3.3 KB

What Is a Capacitor

A capacitor is composed of two insulated conductors that carry equal and opposite charges. It stores electric energy in the electrostatic field between its conductors.

Capacitance and Storage Units

Capacitance (C) is the property that relates the charge stored (Q) to the potential difference (V) between the plates: Q = C · V. Different capacitors can acquire different charges under the same potential difference because they have different capacitances. Capacitance determines how much electric charge a device can store for a given voltage.

Farad and Its Multiples

A farad (F) is the SI unit of capacitance: a capacitor has a capacitance of one farad if it stores one coulomb (1 C) of charge when the potential difference is one volt...
