The Evolutionary History of the Human Genus

Geography2.99 KB

The Genus Australopithecus

Important skeletal fragments discovered in Africa have allowed scientists to reconstruct the history of the first ancestors of the human species: Australopithecus. These discoveries confirmed their ability to walk upright.

Bipedalism provided a significant evolutionary advantage, as it freed their hands to identify and collect food rich in protein and calories. While some features of this species resemble modern humans, other skeletal traits remain closer to those of apes.

A long process of natural selection favored individuals and groups that collaborated to secure food. The most successful groups retained mental maps of the landscape, organized to defend against predators, and improved their rudimentary tools. This...

Understanding Our Environment

Nowadays, everyone seems to be very engrossed in the environment. People are trying to do everything possible to improve our surroundings by recycling, reusing, or reducing our needs. Everyone is aware of the problem, but do they really understand what this entails?

Defining the Environment

It is clear that the environment includes natural resources like fauna and flora, as well as ecosystems and various types of ecological energy. It refers to all elements of the physical and biological world. However, these resources and ecosystems are in danger, primarily due to increasing population and consumption.

Inca builders developed techniques to build huge walls, a mosaic of carved stone blocks that fit perfectly, without even a needle being able to pass through. Often these...
