Orthogonal projections and principal views

Image

Usually called the principal views of an object, these are the orthogonal projections of the object onto six planes arranged as faces of a cube. They can also be described as the orthogonal projections of an object according to the different directions from which you view it. The rules that govern the representation of the views of an object are included in UNE 1-032-82, "Technical drawings: General principles of representation," which is equivalent to ISO 128-82.

Image Name of views

How the six views are obtained

If we place an observer according to the six directions indicated by the arrows, we obtain six possible views of an object. Image

Name and common terms for each view

These views have the following denominations:...

Understanding Triangle Centers: Circumcenter, Incenter, Centroid, and Orthocenter

Visual arts and art education3.63 KB

A polygon is the portion of the plane bounded by a closed polyline. A polygon is a plane shape with straight sides. A plane is a flat surface with no thickness.
Polygons are 2-dimensional shapes. They are made of straight lines, and the shape is “closed” (all the lines connect up).

1. Circumcenter

The circumcenter is the center of the triangle’s circumcircle, one that passes through the three vertices of the triangle.
It is located at the intersection of the three side bisectors. As we already know the line bisector is the locus of all the circle centers that pass through the endpoints of a segment. As the three sides of a triangle are segments, if we draw the three side bisectors, we will get a point that will be the center of a circle that...

Maneuvering and Warning Sound Signals (Vessels in Sight)

These signals use short blasts (o, approximately 1 second) and prolonged blasts (__, 4–6 seconds).

  • o: I am altering my course to starboard.
  • oo: I am altering my course to port.
  • ooo: I am operating astern propulsion (giving back).
  • ooooo: Danger signal. I do not understand your intentions or actions.
  • __ __ o: I intend to overtake you on your starboard side.
  • __ __ oo: I intend to overtake you on your port side.
  • __ o __ o: I agree with your proposed overtaking maneuver.
  • __: Prolonged blast used as a warning signal when approaching a bend or leaving a berth.

Acoustic Signals in Reduced Visibility (Fog Signals)

These signals are sounded at intervals not exceeding two minutes.

  • __: Power-driven vessel

Understanding Projection Systems in Technical Drawing

Projecting Points and Shapes

Projecting points onto a plane involves rays passing through the points and intersecting the plane. These intersections are called projections. Projecting a shape involves projecting its vertices.

Projection Systems

There are two main systems of projection:

Perspective Projection

When the rays originate from a single point, the system is called perspective projection. The resulting shape is proportionally smaller or larger.

Parallel Projection

When the rays are parallel, the system is called parallel projection. The resulting shape is congruent (same shape and size). There are two variations:

  1. Oblique Projection: The rays are oblique to the projection plane.

  2. Orthographic Projection: The rays are perpendicular to the projection

Understanding and Constructing Tangencies in Geometry

Visual arts and art education4.93 KB

Tangencies

Making Tangents

Two Circles

  • External Tangents: Draw another circle concentric to the larger one with radius R - r. Join the centers. This is the bisector. Draw an auxiliary circle to the centers. Join the center with the points of intersection with the smaller circumference and extend. Where the lines intersect the larger circle will be the tangent points. Parallels are drawn to the smaller circle to find all points of contact.
  • Internal Tangents: The process is the same, except that the circle is of radius R + r, and the parallels are drawn to the opposite side.

Tangent to a Circle Passing Through Point P

  • If the tangent is to be external, a concentric circle of radius R + r is drawn. From P, an arc of radius R is drawn, which intersects

Understanding Elements of Art: Line, Color, Texture, Shape, Form, Value, Space

Line

Line - is a mark on a surface that describes a shape or outline. It can create texture and can be thick and thin. Types of line can include actual, implied, vertical, horizontal, diagonal, and contour lines. (note: Ken does not list 'psychic line' - that was a 'new term' to me)

Color

Color - refers to specific hues and has 3 properties, Chroma, Intensity, and Value. The color wheel is a way of showing the chromatic scale in a circle using all the colors made with the primary triad. Complimentary pairs can produce dull and neutral color. Black and white can be added to produce tints (add white), shades (add black), and tones (add gray).

Texture

Texture - is about surface quality either tactile or visual. Texture can be real or implied by different...
