Environmental Impact and Resource Overuse

Geology2.77 KB

Environment

The environment comprises chemical, biological, and social processes that can affect living beings. The effect of transformation on the natural environment is called environmental impact. All living creatures produce an effect on the environment in which they live. Impact is generated because human technological development is much larger than that of other species, leading to economic and political impacts, overfishing, and pollution. Advances in living conditions have improved health and increased population longevity, but we often over-exploit environmental resources. Nature needs time to regenerate.

Overexploitation of Plant and Animal Species

Plant and animal species form ecosystems; the equilibrium between all these elements...

Lower Limb Muscles: Gluteal, Thigh and Adductor Anatomy

Geology3.29 KB

I) Muscles of the Gluteal Region

1) Deep Level

a) Gluteus minimus: the smallest of the gluteal muscles. It originates on the iliac fossa and inserts on the greater trochanter of the femur. Its function is to abduct and medially rotate the thigh.
Innervation: superior gluteal nerve.

b) Piriformis: located below the gluteus minimus. Its function is to laterally rotate and abduct the thigh.

c) Obturator internus: originates in the pelvic cavity, on the medial face of the obturator membrane, and inserts on the greater trochanter. Its function is to laterally rotate and abduct the thigh.

d) Superior and inferior gemelli: run along the extrapelvic borders of the obturator internus tendon and share the same action.

e) Obturator externus: inserts in the obturator...

Accounting Objectives, Cost Definitions and Internal Cost Accounting Principles

Geology9.7 KB

Objectives and Definition of Cost Accounting: Internal Accounting

Cost accounting is the part of accounting that occupies the company's technical-economic problematic.

Objectives

  • The recording, measurement, valuation and presentation of the transactions corresponding to the internal activity of the company.
  • The valuation of the different outputs and productive processes.
  • The analysis and control of the processes that generate production costs.
  • Internal calculation as the difference result, with knowledge of the objective and how much each element contributed to obtaining it.
  • Providing relevant information for strategic decision making.
  • The study and establishment of the necessary accounts beyond the previous ones for compliance with fiscal purposes.

The Demographic and Agrarian Revolutions: Origins of Industrialization

Geology2.68 KB

The Demographic Revolution

Pre-industrialization was preceded by sustained population growth in Britain. During the 18th century, a trend toward reduced mortality rates and high birth rates triggered significant demographic expansion. By 1750, this growth accelerated due to several key factors:

  • Agricultural Development: Improvements in food processing and farming techniques reduced mortality rates.
  • Proto-industrialization: Early economic shifts provided the foundation for subsequent industrial growth.
  • Labor Supply: Increased population levels created a large, affordable workforce for emerging industries.

The Industrial Revolution

The Industrial Revolution represents a set of economic transformations driven by the application of machinery to production....

Plasmodium Cycle, Hepatitis B Diagnosis and More Parasitic and Fungal Biology

Geology5.76 KB

Plasmodium Cycle

The Plasmodium cycle involves a single large number of forms that develop in some other intermediate hosts, including humans and mosquitoes.

Sporozoites are injected into the human host with the saliva of the mosquito during the first bite. Sporozoites introduced into the human liver invade hepatocytes, where they reproduce asexually.

Following this, the schizont (a multinucleated cell) ruptures, releasing about 100 to 200 merozoites into circulation, which can easily disseminate.

Human Blood Stage

The initial blood stage in humans begins with the formation of the trophozoite, a simple parasite inside the red blood cell. The trophozoite matures and forms another schizont, which initiates the blood cycle (rupture releases merozoites...

J.L. Austin's Theory of Speech Acts and Language

Geology5.01 KB

1. Austin and Linguistic Philosophy

Foundations of Linguistic Studies

J.L. Austin was a philosopher whose work significantly influenced linguistic studies. His philosophy fueled current language theory. Two key points start to define his philosophy:

Revaluation of Language Currents

  • The greater part of studios aimed to demonstrate that philosophical concepts regarding language were naturally imperfect. In other words, they could not serve as a metalanguage for science.
  • Austin argued that natural languages are perfect, unlike the historical languages studied by other philosophers.

Stance Against Verificationalism

The notion of truth based on correspondence with reality cannot examine the nature of language logic, as sentences do not pretend to reflect...

Ceramic Building Materials and Clay Manufacturing

Geology5.19 KB

Composition and Properties of Clay

The combination of clay and mullite is designed to resist temperatures up to 900 degrees. The composition includes alumina, silicas, iron oxide (red), white feldspar, and plastic clays. When processing, the addition of more water does not negatively impact quality; rather, the final quality depends on the raw materials and absorption rates (Apparent RPE area and temperature).

Additives and Processing

Oven fluxes are added to reduce the fusion temperature. Degreasers and burning additives are used to remove excess plasticity and ensure a uniform temperature throughout the mix. Additionally, plasticizing additives are utilized to refine the raw materials.

The Manufacturing Process

The production cycle involves several...

Ocean Dynamics and Climate Science Fundamentals

Geology3.99 KB

Trophic Interactions and Food Webs

Trophic interactions are known as a food web. In a food web, herring typically receives about 0.68% of primary production, compared to 1% in a linear food chain. Ecosystems with fewer trophic levels often exhibit greater fish production.

The Biological Pump

The biological pump refers to the removal of organic matter (specifically organic carbon, fixed by phytoplankton during photosynthesis) from the euphotic zone to deeper waters and ultimately to the ocean floor (sediments).

Biogeochemistry and Trace Metals

Biogeochemistry involves the biological mediation of geochemistry. It encompasses major element cycles such as Carbon (C), Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), and Sulfur (S). These cycles are intimately linked to...

Air Pollution: Causes, Sources and Effects on Atmosphere

Geology7.79 KB

What produces the presence of hydrocarbons in the air?
The photolytic cycle, the interplay of photolysis and oxygen with the atomic oxygen that generates ozone, produces very reactive radicals.

Does the combination of these substances produce smog?
Yes. These radicals form secondary pollutants with the primary contaminants and the normal constituents of the air.

When does the production of hydrocarbons begin each day?
Production of hydrocarbons starts in the early morning, during the first hours of the day, with intense traffic and the activity of nitric oxide in large urban centers, caused by heating systems and intense vehicle traffic.

Where is tropospheric ozone present?
Ozone is naturally present in the troposphere. Part of it comes from the upper...

Budget Management and Total Quality Control Systems

Geology10.6 KB

Topic 5: Budget Management and Decision-Making

Is there a relationship and impact between different types of decisions in a company and budget management?

Budget management stems from foundational strategic decisions that set overarching organizational objectives. In turn, budget management directly influences subsequent operational decisions made during ongoing activities to achieve established budgetary goals.

Four Key Functions and Purposes of a Budget

  • Planning instrument: Outlines projected targets, resource allocations, and operational paths.
  • Information and communication link: Connects disparate departments and coordinates shared organizational data.
  • Management control tool: Facilitates performance tracking, accountability, and corrective action
