Triumph on the Trails: My First High School Hiking Trip
My First Hiking Adventure
To a certain extent, hiking is a dangerous but interesting activity. My first hike was full of breathtaking scenes and interesting incidents. The reason I hiked was that my secondary school organizes a leadership training camp for Secondary 6 students every year, which includes hiking. When I knew that I had to hike with my buddies, mixed feelings sprang up in my mind. We usually have indoor activities together but rarely participate in outdoor activities. It was a truly memorable experience for us.
The Beginning of the Journey
We started our journey at 9:00 AM. Many of my buddies, including myself, were very excited about our hiking journey. Few of us had tried hiking before; therefore, we formed a group to complete the journey together. This helped us get to know each other better. First, we took a coach to the mountain to start our amazing journey. It began with a briefing from the teachers and helpers.
We could even run during the beginning stage because the road was nearly flat. We chatted with each other in a relaxed atmosphere, even talking about our lives from Secondary 1 to Secondary 5. Imagine that we were each bearing a 20kg backpack, yet we could still do everything I mentioned! We finished the easiest part of the journey in two hours, took a break, and had some food and water. We did not yet realize the difficulty of the following part of our journey.
Conquering the Steep Slopes
After resting, a thought sprang into my mind: “Would I die after climbing the slope I saw?” I could not imagine the steepness of the slope; it seemed as if the road had been placed vertically. Everyone thought that we could not climb it. However, we succeeded because we worked as a group. We helped each other, which made everything easier. We felt delighted when we finished this troublesome task.
Navigating Dangerous Streams
However, obstacles appeared continuously. Streams appeared before our eyes immediately after climbing the slope. The water roared at us, seeming as though it wanted to bite and hurt us. We needed to walk across the stream using only a small number of stones between the banks. Water had eroded these stones for thousands of years. The stones had become fragile, and no one knew which ones were safe to step on. Everyone gambled with their safety as they walked across. Moreover, the stones seemed coated in oil. Most of us nearly slipped, but luckily, we all completed the challenge.
The Reward at the Summit
After facing these obstacles, we finally saw the tremendous view from the top of the mountain. I could see that everyone’s faces were full of tiredness, yet they wore smiles because every one of us had achieved something we once thought impossible. This was the most memorable scene of the entire journey.
