The Tertiary Sector: Economic Services and Infrastructure
The Tertiary Sector
A country cannot be considered truly developed if its tertiary sector activities are stagnant or underdeveloped. Even with abundant raw materials and a diverse industrial base, economic progress remains limited without efficient business transactions, reliable access roads, and the rapid movement of goods and services.
El Comercio (Commerce)
Commerce involves the distribution of products and the activities of buying and selling. It becomes dynamic through the interaction between the supply of goods and consumer demand.
Trade is categorized as follows:
- Domestic Trade: Buying and selling activities performed within the same country. This includes local trade (within your immediate area) and regional trade (spanning different areas of the country).
- Foreign Trade: The exchange of goods and services between different countries.
Foreign trade consists of two phases:
- Exports: Sales made by Venezuela to other countries (e.g., oil, aluminum, iron, fruit, coffee).
- Imports: The purchase of goods and items from other countries (e.g., vehicles, machinery, foodstuffs, chemicals).
Transportation
Transportation provides the necessary means to move people and goods between different regions or across international borders. This sector relies on various communication channels and infrastructure.
Public and Private Services
These services are essential for addressing the needs of the population and solving daily living challenges. They are classified as follows:
- Media: Important services used to connect and communicate over distances.
- Social Media: Mass media platforms that provide information across various regions of the Republic.
- Electricity: An essential public service required for the population and the development of a modern nation.
- Public Transportation: The means by which villagers and citizens move within their locality (urban transport) or to distant locations (extra-urban transport).
- Drinking Water: A public service essential for life and human activities.
- Sanitation and Cleaning: Services for cities and towns, managed and contracted by state and municipal governments.
