The Familiar Farm and Fernando's Revelation

The mystery begins when Mariana wakes up and realizes the farm is familiar. Fernando then recounts that his father had committed suicide while studying in Belgium, driven by reasons of love. At that point, Fernando had begun to investigate this conundrum. He discovered:

  • A party dress missing a sleeve and shawl
  • A music box identical to one Mariana had at home
  • An oil portrait that Edgardo had painted years earlier for his daughter, Mariana

From this point, and with this new knowledge, Fernando had fallen madly in love with Mariana.

Estate Discoveries and Hidden Truths

At the estate, Mariana, along with the old servant Dimas, discovers another cupboard reminiscent of the house. Inside, they find missing clothing parts, shoes, and a blood-stained knife, all of which heighten the suspicion of a murder. Later, Mariana discovers that Dimas is a policeman in disguise. Dimas also searches the house, which is in disarray.

Clotilde still believes that Ezekiel murders women, but the truth is he experiments with cats to eliminate a genetic skin disease in these animals. In the second cupboard, almond leaves are discovered. Mariana notices that the closet door opens by itself.

Julia's Return and Unraveling Clues

Finally, Mariana's sister Julia, who has been missing for three years, reappears. It seems she married and moved to Prosperity with her husband, who also happens to be the detective. Amidst the chaos, Fermin (now serving Ojeda) and Leoncio continue to relay messages.

Mariana also learns that Fernando was digging in the garden one afternoon. Following this, Mariana puts on the dress to observe others' reactions. With the arrival of Michelle and Edgardo at the house, the mystery is finally revealed.

The Tragic Past Unveiled

Michelle, upon seeing Mariana well-dressed, mistakes her for Heloise and loses her composure. This is the moment when Edgardo explains everything that happened: The Ojeda Briones family had lived in that house before, making the farm familiar to Mariana and Julia.

Fernando's father and Heloise (Mariana's mother) had a close relationship, and he fell in love with her. Michelle, who already suffered from serious mental problems, saw Heloise wearing that very dress at a party. Driven by her madness, Michelle murdered Heloise.

Concealment and Resolution

To conceal his sister's crime, Edgardo kept the evidence hidden in the house, along with his favorite music box and a box he had made for his wife. He also hid a picture which, years later, he would paint of his daughter, who was the spitting image of Heloise. Heloise was buried under the shade of an almond tree, which was her favorite place.

After this, Michelle is taken to a mental hospital. Mariana also discovers that Clotilde's suspicions about Ezekiel were unfounded; his 'hobbies' were solely the investigation of the feline disease.
