Mission of Engine Cooling

The temperature reached in the explosion chamber is higher than the melting point of the materials used to manufacture engine components. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce the temperature to prevent component failure.

Air Cooling Systems

This system relies on heat transfer via radiation. The engine features cooling fins that increase the heat dissipation surface in areas where components reach the highest temperatures.

Liquid Cooling Systems

This method involves circulating a liquid coolant inside the engine to evacuate the heat generated by combustion.

Radiator Control Elements

The radiator must be able to evacuate large quantities of heat in short periods.

  • Drain Plugs: Metal or plastic screws used to remove air from the circuit and prevent air pockets.
  • Hoses: Rubber tubes through which coolant circulates; their diameter depends on the required flow rate.

Safety Caps

Safety caps prevent the engine block from bursting if the coolant freezes or pressure exceeds limits.

Monitoring Elements

  • Indicator Light: Alerts the driver to critical coolant temperatures.
  • Temperature Gauge: Provides a real-time reading of the coolant temperature.
