Conducting Effective Interviews

• Rapport: This is the process of establishing a relationship and support at the start of the interview with the interviewees.
• Conducting the interview: In any area, the person interviewed will take the lead in terms of the information you want to obtain.
• Formalization of the interview: We should not prolong the interview longer than necessary and should close it once the information provided in the script is obtained.
• Note-taking: A space for taking notes should be provided, and the respondent shall receive positive reinforcement to feel that what they are telling us is valued.

Test Instruments and Scales

Tests, indices, or scales are instruments used to measure and assess the normality of certain behaviors in young children, or the suitability of services, documents, and the center's facilities.

In junior kindergarten, they are divided into two main categories:

• Tests or scales to measure conduct or behavior. Some of these scales include: the child behavior assessment scale, the rating scale for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and the behavioral questionnaire for preschoolers.
• Tests or scales to measure the adequacy of services, documents, or the center's facilities.

Planning Information Collection

Once you have decided on the techniques for information collection and selected the instruments, you must decide:

• When to obtain the information.
• How many times it must be obtained.

Although the collection of information is continuous throughout the school day, this alone will be insufficient. Therefore, more structured information is required. This collection will require advance preparation, the development of assessment instruments, and preparing to observe the situation.

Obtaining, Recording, and Analyzing Data

Once you have selected and planned the collection instruments, you can begin to obtain and register the information.

The data analysis must be structured to allow it to be used and interpreted by everyone involved in the evaluation. The information obtained and analyzed must be recorded in writing.

Conducting the Evaluation

Once the entire process of collecting and analyzing information is complete, you will move on to the assessment phase, which is based on value judgments to make decisions.

• Formulation of judgments: Educators interpret the results of the analysis and classify them according to their own criteria.
• Decision making: If the assessment system establishes the necessary corrections to improve the operation of the center, the decision-making phase will be the culmination of the entire process.
• Publicizing the results: The final result of the evaluation should take the form of a written report. This report will be sent to all affected parties.
