  • Editorial
  • Drawing
  • Column

Collaboration: An author who signs their name adds prestige to the communication medium.

Structure of an Opinion Column

A well-structured article includes an introduction, development, and conclusion.

Unstressed Pronouns

These pronouns are placed before or after the verb, forming a single unit in pronunciation. They are placed after the verb in the imperative, infinitive, or gerund forms; otherwise, they precede the verb.

Substitution Rules

  • Direct Object (CD): Defined (preceded by article, demonstrative, or possessive), Undefined (no preceding article), or Neutral (referring to a sentence).
  • Indirect Object (CI): Uses li or els.
  • Attribute: Undefined (treated as CD) or Adjective/Prepositional phrase.
  • Emphatic (CRV and CC): Replaced by en or hi depending on the preposition.
  • Predicative: Uses hi for verbs like 'to do' or 'to say', and en for others.

Pronoun Positions

  • Enhanced: Before a verb starting with a consonant (e.g., em veu).
  • Elided: Before a verb starting with a vowel (e.g., m'he mirat).
  • Full: After a verb ending in a consonant or diphthong (e.g., mirat-me).
  • Reduced: After a verb ending in a vowel (e.g., veure'm).

The Diaeresis

The diaeresis (¨) is used to break a diphthong or indicate a hiatus. It is required in gu and qu combinations before e or i to ensure the u is pronounced.

Usage Rules

  • Hiatus: Indicates that two contiguous vowels do not form a diphthong.
  • Exceptions: Not used in infinitive, gerund, future, or conditional endings, nor in words with specific suffixes like -isme, -ista, or prefixes like anti-, co-, re-, semi-.
