Christian Social Teaching: 20th Century Developments

Throughout the twentieth century, new problems arose due to industrial development and the emergence of new socio-economic systems, which were assessed from the Christian principles of the Church.

Content of the Encyclical of Pius XI

Forty years after the publication of Rerum Novarum, Encyclical Pius XI published the "Quadragesimo Anno" (1931) which proposed a new social order away from communism and fascism. It emphasizes the production and organization of capital and labor, advocates the emergence of intermediate systems against socialism and capitalism, and proposed Christian charity for the Christianization of the working masses.

Understanding the Nature of the Divine and the Sacred

Religion2.69 KB

Elements of the Religious Phenomenon: The Supreme Being

There is a supreme reality, superior and incomprehensible to humanity, designated by the name God. This mystery represents a reality beyond human understanding, whose presence is felt within the field of the sacred, inviting a reorganization of one's life. It is not merely a truth, idea, or concept to be learned, but a living presence.

In religious experience, this presence is felt as absolutely real, yet it remains unprovable through rational evidence. It is fundamentally different and superior to humanity—a "wholly other" that stands in contrast to the mundane and natural world, rendering it transcendent. Simultaneously, it is felt as intimate and close within the depths of the person....

Faith, Reason and the Church: Galileo, Darwin and Thomas Aquinas

Faith, Reason and the Church

If faith is a supernatural virtue freely granted by God, are "the divine inspirations" of the Church and other communities valid? Are they accepted by all? Could anyone question their validity? There are some aspects where the Church has been denied or incorrectly understood by society.

This is noticeable in the history of the Church condemning Galileo for claiming that the Earth was round, and in its reaction to Darwinian theory. Many people were not able to recognize the error in the reasons given for the Church's position, since they were already defending their current theories.

Science in American Schools

A clear case is that of American schools, which deny the teaching of evolution through Darwinian theory and...
