Core Accounting Principles for Financial Statements

Mathematics2.87 KB

Going Concern Principle (Firm Start Operation)

It is considered that the management of the company has virtually unlimited duration. This is also called the "principle of continuous management." Consequently, the application of these principles will not be aimed at determining the value of assets for purposes of global or partial sale, or the amount resulting from a liquidation.

Accrual Basis

The imputation of income and expenditure must be based on the actual flow of goods and services they represent, regardless of when the resulting monetary or financial flow from them occurs. Accrual adjustments are based on these principles.

Principle of Uniformity

Once an approach is adopted in applying accounting principles among the alternatives allowed,...

Python Inheritance: Reusing Code with Parent and Child Classes

Mathematics3.34 KB

Understanding Inheritance in Python

Inheritance allows a class to use and extend the properties and methods of another class. It promotes code reusability and reduces duplication. Think of it as “child learns from parent.” 👨‍👦‍💻

Code Duplication: Program Without Inheritance

When classes share common attributes or methods (such as first_name, last_name, and get_age), implementing them separately leads to redundant code, as shown below:

import datetime

class TennisPlayer:
    def __init__(self, fname, lname, birth_year):
        self.first_name = fname
        self.last_name = lname
        self.birth_year = birth_year
        self.aces = []

    def get_age(self):
        now = datetime.datetime.now()
        return now.year -

Tax Treatment of Employee Benefits and Compensation

Mathematics2.66 KB

Health Insurance Reimbursements

  • If the amount reimbursed by the employer equals the expenses incurred, the reimbursement is tax-neutral.

Amortizing R&D Benefits

  • Costs are not amortized until benefits are received.
  • Amortization Formula: Amortization Expense = Total R&D Expenditures × (Months of Benefits / 60).
  • Example: $165,000 total R&D × (4/60).
  • If the project is unsuccessful, total expenditures are tax-deductible as losses up to $250,000.

Life Insurance and Death Benefits

  • Accrued Salary: Salary earned before death remains taxable.
  • Employer Death Payments: Payments made to support a family are considered charitable and are not taxable.
  • Insurance Benefits: Life insurance proceeds are excluded from gross income, though interest earned on

Oracle Database Audit and Privilege Management

Mathematics4.08 KB

Revoking Public Privileges

To identify and revoke public privileges, use the following query:

SQL> SELECT table_name FROM dba_tab_privs WHERE owner='SYS' AND privilege = 'EXECUTE' AND grantee='PUBLIC' AND table_name LIKE 'UTL%';

Users with DBA Role

SQL> SELECT grantee FROM dba_role_privs WHERE granted_role = 'DBA';

Users with SYSDBA and SYSOPER Privileges

SQL> SELECT * FROM V$PWFILE_USERS;

Audit Parameters and Session Auditing

Check the current audit parameters:

SHOW PARAMETER AUDIT_FILE_DEST || AUDIT_SYS_OPERATIONS || AUDIT_TRAIL;

Common Audit Commands:

  • SQL> AUDIT session;

Essential Inventory and Payroll Management Practices

Mathematics3.17 KB

Inventory Management Fundamentals

Inventory refers to a company's assets acquired for resale in their purchased state or for transformation into other goods sold as finished products. A significant portion of a company's assets is considered inventory if it is company property and intended for sale.

Inventory Classification

  • Purchased Goods from Third Parties
  • Finished Products
  • Products in Process
  • Raw Materials
  • Factory Supplies
  • Packaging Material
  • Merchandise in Transit

Internal Control for Inventory

Inventory often represents the highest volume category of assets, making robust internal controls crucial:

  1. Goods must be protected against theft and losses by keeping them safe in secure locations, accessible only to authorized personnel.
  2. Upon entry into the store,

Set Theory Fundamentals: Definitions, Notation and Examples

Mathematics3.77 KB

1.1 Theory of Sets

Theory of sets. Why is it said to be a mathematical system and language? It is said to be a mathematical system because it contains a set of operations, theorems, functions and relations, and it underpins areas such as algebra, geometry, calculus and more.

Set theory is an appropriate tool for structured thinking and for developing the capacity to analyze and design solutions for particular problems. It allows focusing on a problem as a whole by removing what is irrelevant and highlighting the essentials.

Set theory facilitates the visualization of relationships between all component parts of a problem as well as each part individually. It lets us combine elements within its own methodology and use deductive reasoning together...

Forward Rate Agreements (FRAs) and Interest Rate Swaps Explained

Mathematics3.23 KB

Forward Rate Agreement (FRA)

A Forward Rate Agreement (FRA) is a contract between two parties who wish to protect themselves against fluctuating interest rates. These are over-the-counter (OTC) contracts, meaning they are not traded on organized exchanges, and are considered off-balance-sheet items because there is no exchange of the principal amount.

It is a contract whereby two parties agree on an interest rate for a specific notional amount for a specific period at a future date. There is no intention, obligation, or commitment to exchange the principal, which is why it is qualified as theoretical or notional. An FRA is a bilateral contract that allows parties to set the terms of a loan (amount and interest rate) to be taken or granted at...

Mastering Binomial Theorem and Determinant Properties

Mathematics3.34 KB

Binomial Theorem Application

The Binomial Theorem formula helps find any term without fully developing the binomial expression. The general term is:

Tk-1 = Ckn ak xn-k

For example, finding the third term (t3), where k=2 (since the term index is k+1):

t2+1 = C25 (5x)5-2 (3 / 5 x2)2

t3: (5 * 4 / 2) * (125x3) * (9/25x4) = 450x7

Binomial Expansion Properties

  • In a homogeneous polynomial of degree n, the binomial development has n + 1 terms.
  • The powers of x decrease from n down to 0.
  • The powers of a increase from 0 up to n.
  • The exponent of the term is one less than the term number (e.g., the 3rd term has an exponent related to 2).
  • Coefficients of equivalent terms are equal.
  • If n is odd, the binomial expansion has two terms with equal power coefficients.
  • The sum
