The Assembly: Argumentative Discourse
An assembly is a type of organized oral communication for a scheduled meeting where a large number of people are involved. A topic is discussed among all participants to reach an agreement.
Key Elements of Assembly Argumentation
- Preparation: Includes reading and approval of the previous assembly's minutes.
- Organization: The assembly is organized into sections.
- Agenda: Contains topics to be discussed, fixed in advance and known to all attendees.
- Moderator: Organizes the assembly and proposes the intention of the assembly.
- Intervention: Participants must respect the speaker, provide convincing arguments, listen with interest and attention, and actively participate in voting.
- Voting: Participants vote to reach an agreement.
- Evaluation: Assesses whether the assembly was successful.
In argumentative discourse within an assembly, it is important for each participant to have counterarguments and provide arguments to defend their views. The intention of the assembly is for participants to reach an agreement through votes, whereas in a debate, this is not necessarily required.
Examples of Arabic Influence
The abundant place names are the most evident example of this influence. Examples include Alzira, Alfafar, and Benicarló, which are of Islamic origin, while Gorgos and Llombai are of Mozarabic origin.
