Social Perspectives: Boarding Schools, Reality TV, and Education
BSHSABRIE: Boarding Schools Pros and Cons
Boarding schools (internships) are places away from the cities—relaxed environments where rebellious people go to study. However, they can have both positive and negative aspects for students.
- On the one hand: Young people are more controlled and monitored, as many centers assign a tutor to each student. They also ban the use of mobile devices and computers for anything other than work or exercises, so students can be more focused and avoid distractions. Practically, they live all day with their peers and can make new friends.
- On the other hand: Students have to be separated from their families and friends, rarely speaking with them. Also, these centers are usually very expensive, so they could cause their family a great economic burden. Students must also always maintain perfect behavior, which can be boring.
In conclusion, boarding schools are very good for those who study hard because they have fewer distractions and more support. In my opinion, many are too expensive and strict.
RS: The Impact of Reality TV Shows
Reality TV shows are very popular and have many viewers. However, there are both positive and negative aspects to reality shows.
- On the one hand: They are very entertaining and fun. People who participate in them become famous and rich, and some programs can even be educational.
- On the other hand: Other people think that reality shows are too sensational. Many are scripted reality and false, yet people still appear on these television programs. For example, in Spain, the vast majority do, such as Big Brother, Gandía Shore, and Who Wants to Marry My Son?
In conclusion, reality shows have many ways to be interpreted and produced. In my opinion, the vast majority of them should not be broadcast on television because they are "garbage" programs.
GABSBTS: Single-Sex vs. Mixed Education
In many schools, boys and girls are taught separately in classrooms. However, this approach can have positive or negative aspects.
- One of the main advantages: Young people are more focused on their studies and put aside the problems of dating. Also, dealing with students can be more comfortable since you don’t have to deal with any kind of discrimination. For example, in sports activities, students would take the same tests, whereas in mixed schools, boys and girls do different tests.
- On the other hand: Children do not learn to interact with the opposite sex; for instance, boys don’t learn how they should treat a woman.
In conclusion, there should be two types of schools so that parents or children can choose where they want to study by weighing the advantages and disadvantages.
