The Secret Jewel and Teresa's Hidden Son

CHAPTER 1: Mr. Nicholas needed help to get on and off the carriage. Mrs. Teresa and Vicentet (the coachman) helped him. Mr. Nicholas wanted to give a gift to his wife, Teresa, so they visited the jeweler, Don Joaquim. Mr. Nicholas sought a gem of great value, and Don Joaquim showed him the finest piece in the house. Teresa was very happy, as this gem would later become her salvation.

A few days later, she went to the jewelry store alone and asked if Don Joaquim would buy back the gem, as she needed the money for a private matter her husband could not know about. Don Joaquim gave her the money, though it was not the same amount her husband had paid. Teresa asked him to make a drawing of the jewel so she could possibly return to buy it a second time. From there, she went to the home of her aunt, Adela, who was caring for Teresa's eleven-month-old child.

She took half of the money from the sale of the jewel to give to Miquel, with whom she had already made arrangements to support the child. The other half was to be given when the child was baptized. She also gave money to her aunt for her help. When she went down the street afterward, she fainted and was taken home. She told Nicholas, her husband, that she did not know where the jewelry was and feared it had been stolen when she fell to the ground. She cried and cried, so Mr. Nicholas took Teresa back to the jeweler. Don Joaquim said he had no equal to it, but he had a drawing and could recreate it. After two months, the jewelry was replaced and paid for again. The problem was solved for Teresa.

That spring, she went to the christening of her son and told Nicholas it was the baptism of a friend's child from her youth. He was kind but did not attend the ceremony.

Salvador Valldaura and the Tragedy of Barbara

CHAPTER 2: Salvador Valldaura, who frequented the Lyceum Theater in Barcelona, met a very pretty girl named Barbara. They began to go to lunch together and grew fond of one another, but at the peak of their relationship, Barbara tragically committed suicide. This tragedy left Salvador in need of the love of another woman, and that woman was Teresa.

A New Romance: The Union of Salvador and Teresa

CHAPTER 3: After the death of Barbara, Salvador Valldaura met Teresa Goday, and from that moment, he was captivated by her. From that day forward, he sent her violets every day. They attended a party where the two coincided and spent the whole night together drinking Sauternes and champagne.

A few days later, Salvador had to travel abroad for work. He went to say goodbye to Teresa, confessing his love, but she rejected him, saying it was too soon after the death of her husband, whom she had loved dearly. When Salvador returned to Barcelona, he visited her several times because he did not want to live with the uncertainty of her reply, so he kept insisting. One day, Salvador asked for a kiss; she kissed her finger and passed it over his cheek. A short time later, they were married.
