Rome Travel Diary: Iconic Landmarks and Concert Memories
Rome: A Family Adventure
In October 2018, I traveled to Rome for the first time with my whole family.
The capital city of Italy is an extraordinary place to visit. The people are very friendly and extremely proud of their country. Rome is a beautiful, bustling city with a moderate climate. The temperature usually stays around 80 degrees, and the primary mode of transportation is by bus.
Iconic Roman Landmarks
Upon arriving at the hotel and dropping off my belongings, I grabbed my map and headed out. My first destination was the Colosseum, an ancient Roman arena where criminals were once pitted against fierce creatures and Roman soldiers. We also visited the Trevi Fountain; legend says it brings good luck to throw a coin in while facing away from the water. After tossing our coins in, I wished for gelato, and we immediately found some—so I suppose it works! The sites my family and I saw were truly amazing.
The Sistine Chapel
Next, we visited the Sistine Chapel, famous for Michelangelo’s masterpiece, The Creation of Man, on its ceiling. There were many guards present, all repeating the same phrase: “No photos, no video.” I was nervous they might think I was photographing the painting while I was just filming myself, but luckily, that did not happen.
The Impact of Travel
Back at the hotel, I reflected on everything I had learned in such a short time. Travel broadens our horizons by bringing us face-to-face with:
- New people and unfamiliar environments
- Different street signs and cultural norms
- New knowledge and wider communities
It changes our perspective so that, when we return, we are never the same.
My First Live Concert Experience
Without warning, the lights went dark. This was the moment I had been waiting for; my adrenaline went through the roof. The time had finally come to experience my first live concert.
A Spectacular Performance
The stage was a masterly piece of work, designed to resemble a massive car. The stadium was packed with fans eager to see their idol. As the music blasted, the audience went wild. The artist danced and sang, entertaining the crowd with a mix of classics, new hits, and boundless energy.
A Memorable Moment
The most touching moment occurred during a ballad. The artist sat on the edge of the stage, wrapped in a flag handed to him by a fan—a gesture that symbolized deep respect. It made the concert truly unforgettable. I will never forget those two hours, and I hope to attend another concert by the same artist again soon.
