1. Is Pedagogical Knowledge Scientific?

According to the works of Patricia Moreno and Ochoa, pedagogy is a discipline that studies and proposes strategies to facilitate a child's transition from a natural state to a human state—a process known as humanization. This continues until the individual reaches the age of reason and freedom.

We define pedagogy as a scientific project under construction. Its features include:

  • Theoretical validation: Intellectual frameworks applied to the field of education.
  • Empirical basis: Reliance on practice and testing, often drawing heavily from educational psychology (e.g., learning theories).

2. The Four Pillars of Education and Dakar 2000

Applying the Delors pillars and the Dakar 2000 framework to a basketball lesson:

  • Learning to Know: Students are taught the fundamental techniques of basketball, such as dribbling, passing, and shooting.
  • Learning to Do: Students practice these foundations through imitation and teacher-led exercises.
  • Learning to Be: Students engage in games to master ball control and develop personal competence.
  • Learning to Live Together: Students cultivate respect for peers, equipment, and personal health.

3. SWOT Analysis: Chilean Educational Reform (1990s)

Strengths

  • Implementation of pedagogical renewal programs.
  • Provision of textbooks and libraries.
  • Establishment of a new curriculum framework.
  • Teacher professional development and wage increases.

Opportunities

  • Expanded educational access and complementary municipal schooling.
  • New developments in higher education, including scholarships and loans.
  • Enhanced support through JUNAEB educational assistance.

Weaknesses

  • Persistent gaps in educational coverage.
  • Ongoing inequality in learning outcomes.

Threats

  • The migration of students to private subsidized schools, which may lack comprehensive teaching goals.
  • The risk of poor performance in standardized assessments like the SIMCE.
