Operational Planning and Optimization in Production

The planning is to set the specific course of action to be followed, establishing the principles which will guide you. It is to consider different alternatives in the course of action and decide the best option.

Importance of Planning

IMPORTANCE:

  • Fosters the development of the company by establishing methods for the rational use of resources.
  • Reduces levels of uncertainty that can occur in the future, although it does not eliminate them.
  • Establishes a rational system for making decisions, avoiding unfounded assumptions.
  • Provides elements for carrying out control.
  • Helps minimize potential problems and improves performance and efforts.

Process: Planeación

The process (planeación) is a way of systematically ordering an event that will be undertaken, involving control and other production processes.

Heuristic Methods

METHODS HEURÍSTICOS — Heuristic methods or resolutions are general strategies and decision rules used by problem solvers. Based on previous experience with similar situations, these strategies indicate possible avenues of solution.

Level Strategy (Nivelada)

STRATEGY NIVELADA

This strategy maintains a constant level of the workforce. It is decided not to hire or fire workers unless they resign. It uses little overtime to achieve objectives and, if necessary, decides to hire subcontractors.

Chase Strategy (Persecución)

Chase strategy matches demand and production changes according to workforce needs and production rate. Organizations frequently hire and fire staff, often use overtime, and sometimes require subcontractors.

Optimization Methods

METHODS OPTIMIZACIÓN — Optimization methods permit incorporating domain-specific search strategies. Available knowledge must incorporate elements of reality that are significant for the level of study to be conducted. These methods consist of maximizing or minimizing variables according to the circumstances of the chosen approach.

Linear Programming

PROGRAMACIÓN LINEAL

Linear programming is a procedure whereby a problem is solved using linear equations formulated through a linear objective. It consists of optimizing the objective function (maximize or minimize), a linear function subject to certain restrictions on its variables.

Transportation Model

MODEL: TRANSPORTE

The transportation model determines a plan for the transportation of goods from various sources to multiple destinations.
