The Story
One day, Portman's grandfather, who suffers from dementia, phones him saying that a monster has taken him. Portman tries to calm him and later goes with a friend to check whether his grandfather is okay. They find him outside on the ground; he says something and then dies. After that, Portman visits a psychiatrist because he has nightmares.
He convinces himself to go to the island where the orphanage was, where his grandfather had been. When he arrives on the island, no one is alive. One day he sees two children running, chases after them, and they travel to the past, after the bomb. Peregrine, the headmistress of the orphanage, says that they went to the past to be safe.
They discover that they also have powers, like his grandparent, and they use them to fight a monster that has taken Peregrine. Afterward, Peregrine cannot return to being human, and Jacob has to go on another adventure.
