Comparisons with As

Use as + adjective or adverb + as to talk About things that are equal in some way.  The white house is as old as the Red. They’re both twelve years old.

Use not as + adjective or adverb + as to Talk about things that are different.The white house is not as old as The yellow one.He doesn’t drive as Slowly as I do.

Often for Equality: The schools here are just as god as The schools in town.

Count Nouns (factories, hospitals, jobs, People, schools)

Use as many + count noun + as to talk About things that are equal in some way. There are as many problems in The country as there are in the City.

Non- Count Nouns ( crime, noise, stress, traffic)

Use as much + non- count noun + as to talk About things that are equal in some way. The drive took as much time as We expected.

Use not as much + non-count noun + as to Talk about things that are different in some way. The brick house Doesn’t need as much work as the White one.

Used To: Used to + base. He used to wear a suit tie to work.  Don’t use it for a specific time on past you can't say: he used to buy a house three Years ago. 

How to confirm information/ emphasize an Opinion  

Didn’t you use to work at the bank? Yes, but I really didn’t like it. Now I work at home. Do you like it better?  Absolutely. Take it from me (or believe Me, or take my word for it) is a lot better to work at home than in an office.  

How to express surprise at a change       

I heard Bill’s quitting. Bill? I can’t believe it. Why in the world would He do that? Well, he said he needed a change. I Wish him luck, but if you ask me (or it seems to me, or I really think, or in My opinion) he’s making a big mistake.
