Heidegger's Analytic of Dasein

Heidegger calls for the destruction of Western philosophy and culture in his search for the source of Being. His work examines human existence through the lens of the self. With Dasein, the objective is to remove entitative, ontic suggestions and instead consider the human being, which is related to the here (da) and to be (sein). Dasein signifies more than just the human being; it encompasses its interaction with the world, where Being acts as a conjunction in establishing a hierarchy. This occurs within the Being-in-the-world of Dasein.

The Hermeneutic Circle and the Truth of Being

This process takes place through understanding subject to the hermeneutic circle, where parts are interpreted from the whole. Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth of Being—the foundation of any opening and the apex of the open. To explain this phase, we must consider the following:

  • Being-in-the-world: Dasein is cast into the world, and its existence is factual. It is conditioned by worldly events and the others with whom we live.
  • The Role of Language: Language is essential because humans feel, understand, and articulate a reality full of ambiguity, parallel to everyday life.
  • Authenticity: One often does not know the "where" or "who" of their authentic being.

Anguish and the Path to Freedom

The opening of Dasein as Being-in-the-world requires an understanding of anguish, which is fundamental to living life in its fullness. Anguish and helplessness emerge in daily life when humans are not content with merely existing in the world and realize that the everyday is insufficient. Perception is lost if one is satisfied with external authorities or conforms to the expectations of the world.

When Dasein is not satisfied, a desire for freedom arises, prompting the individual to take care of the self. At this point, a new language and a new way of thinking emerge, allowing access to the language of Being. This new thinking enables man to be released from external authorities and embrace the charge of Being, which is the basis of their true essence. At the end of this process, we discover the truth of Being.
