Biology3.2 KB

Annex 1: Categories of Controlled Waste

Clinical wastes from medical care in hospitals, medical centers, and clinics for human and animal health (legislated in the Province of Buenos Aires by Law 11.347).
Wastes from the production and preparation of pharmaceutical products.
Waste pharmaceuticals, drugs, and medicines for human and animal health.
Wastes from the production, formulation, and use of biocides and plant protection products.
Wastes from the manufacture, preparation, and use of chemicals for wood preservation.

Wastes Containing Specific Constituents

Selenium and selenium compounds.
Cadmium and cadmium compounds.

Annex 2: List of Dangerous Characteristics

Flammable Solid: Solid waste, other than explosives, which under transport conditions are readily combustible or may cause/contribute to fire through friction.
Spontaneous Combustion: Substances or wastes liable to spontaneous heating under normal transport conditions or upon contact with air.
Water-Reactive: Substances or wastes which, in contact with water, emit flammable gases in dangerous quantities.
Toxic Gas Emission: Substances or wastes which, by interaction with air or water, emit toxic gases in dangerous quantities.
Toxic (Delayed or Chronic): Substances or wastes which, if inhaled, ingested, or absorbed through the skin, may cause delayed or chronic effects, including carcinogenicity.
Ecotoxic: Substances or wastes which, if released, present immediate or delayed adverse effects on the environment due to bioaccumulation or toxicity to biotic systems.

Annex 3: Disposal Operations

Section A: Operations Without Resource Recovery

This section encompasses disposal operations performed in practice that do not lead to resource recovery, recycling, reclamation, direct reuse, or alternative uses:

  • D1: Deposit into or onto land (e.g., landfill).
  • D2: Land treatment (e.g., biodegradation of liquid or sludgy discards in soils).
  • D5: Specially engineered landfill (e.g., placement into separated, covered, and insulated cells).

Section B: Operations With Resource Recovery

This section encompasses operations for materials legally defined as special waste that would otherwise be assigned to Section A:

  • R1: Use as a fuel (other than direct incineration) or other means to generate energy.
  • R2: Solvent reclamation/regeneration.
  • R3: Recycling/reclamation of organic substances not used as solvents.
  • R4: Recycling/reclamation of metals and metal compounds.
