Chapter VII: The Child Jesus Masdeu's Visit
It was the day of St. Teresa. By mid-morning, a knock came at the door. Gertrude tried to identify the caller and quickly informed Teresa that a boy, carrying a bouquet, was asking for her. Teresa couldn't imagine who the boy might be. Gertrude explained that her grandmother had mentioned him, referring to him as Teresa's "fillot."
The boy went and stood at the door, but in the meantime, he was entertained by watching and examining the curious items displayed at the house's entrance. Suddenly, Sofia appeared, observing him with an air of disapproval. She then gave a notice to Jesus Masdeu.
Teresa came to the room where the boy was observing a closet, which her grandmother had bought in Nicholas. The boy, now 11 years old, had grown enough to change his physical and facial appearance, though his nose remained disproportionate, as if it had been broken. They spoke, but with a noticeable tone of distance.
Teresa went to retrieve a letter. Meanwhile, the maid had taken the flowers to place them somewhere. When the boy went down for the letter, he was instructed to give it to his father, who was waiting outside in the car. The envelope contained some gold coins. Finally, the boy said goodbye to Teresa and ran to the car.
Chapter VIII: Hazelnuts, Wisteria, and Conversations
In this chapter, Eugenia and Teresa are in Teresa's garden, spending their time in conversation. Their discussion turns to the topic of men, prompted by a simple question Sofia poses to Eugenia: "When will someone give you a kiss?"
Eugenia asked Teresa what kind of boys she liked. Teresa replied by describing physical characteristics similar to her father's. Eugenia laughed, and Teresa, not liking her reaction, began to respond defensively. Valldaura arrived, and they continued their discussion while eating hazelnuts.
Later, they began to talk about Drink, the jeweler. He mentioned that Eugenia had recently sold her grandmother's jewelry after her death, but he was able to continue his jewelry business thanks to his son.
Chapter IX: Cleaning Teresa's Closet
Armanda, Cristina, and Louise Simone help Teresa clean her closet, which proves to be quite interesting. Inside the closet were a number of old dresses. While cleaning the closet, they start talking about Sofia and Eladi.
The maids found a purple coat, and then a mask and fan, which provoked a lot of laughter. Suddenly, Teresa caught them stirring through things. She saw the fan, took it away, and left.
