Bioelements in Living Organisms

Bioelements are chemical elements essential to living things, including oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, and carbon.

  • Calcium (Ca): Supports bone and tooth development, muscle function, and blood clotting. Deficiency: Rickets.
  • Phosphorus (P): Component of bones, cell membranes, and nucleic acids. Deficiency: General weakness.
  • Magnesium (Mg): Activates energy production and regulates muscle and nerve function. Deficiency: Weakness and stunted growth.
  • Sulfur (S): Component of proteins in hair and nails. Deficiency: No major disruption.
  • Sodium (Na) and Potassium (K): Regulate body fluids, blood pressure, and nerve impulses. Deficiency: Muscle cramps, loss of appetite, and weakness.
  • Chlorine (Cl): Component of gastric juice and body fluids. Deficiency: Muscle cramps and loss of appetite.

Essential Trace Elements

Trace elements are required in smaller percentages but are vital for life.

  • Iron (Fe): Hemoglobin production. Deficiency: Anemia and low resistance to infections.
  • Zinc (Zn): Promotes cell reproduction and wound healing. Deficiency: Dwarfism and skin problems.
  • Manganese (Mn): Activates energy production and bone formation. Deficiency: Memory loss and tinnitus.
  • Fluorine (F): Maintains healthy teeth. Deficiency: Cavities.
  • Copper (Cu): Supports metabolic reactions. Deficiency: Anemia in children.
  • Cobalt (Co): Red blood cell production. Deficiency: Anemia, neurological problems, and poor growth.
  • Iodine (I): Thyroid hormone production. Deficiency: Goiter, obesity, and general weakness.

Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA)

The RDA is the average daily amount of a nutrient a healthy person should consume through diet to maintain optimal health.
