Specify Permissions for Network Users

In Folder Options, under the View tab, locate the advanced settings and uncheck the box labeled Always use File Sharing. To establish special permissions for specific users registered on the same computer or network, follow these steps:

  • Step 1: Right-click the folder you wish to share and select the Sharing and Security menu.
  • Step 2: Click the Permissions button.
  • Step 3: To add new users, click the Add button. In the window that appears, enter the user type, location, and name. Note that these users must already exist in the requested network location.

Once configured, remove the Everyone group, as it is unnecessary when providing individual access to specific users. The My Network Places window displays all shared folders and network resources.

Share a Device

You can share various hardware devices across your network:

Share Printers

  • Printers with their own IP address: Using network technology, configure the IP information, gateway, and subnet mask directly through the printer menus. This allows the printer to function independently of any computer.
  • Shared from a host machine: Any printer installed on a computer can be shared by installing its drivers on other network computers. The drawback is that the host computer must remain powered on for others to access the printer.

Share DVD Players

Other hardware, such as DVD players, can also be shared, which is useful for installing software or running media files. To do this, access your PC's storage devices, right-click the DVD player, and select Sharing and Security to configure it just like a folder.

Install a Shared Printer

  • Step 1: Start the wizard via Start > Printers and Faxes > Add printer.
  • Step 2: Select the option A network printer or a printer attached to another computer.
  • Step 3: Enter the path to the printer or select Find a printer if the location is unknown.
  • Step 4: Choose whether to set it as the default printer and finish the wizard. If drivers are correctly installed on the host computer, the printer will be ready for use on your network.
