Professional Fulfillment: Voices on Career Satisfaction

What Motivates Professionals in Diverse Fields?

Jane Milton: The Joy of Food Product Development

I love being able to work out what a client needs and do it. I love having an idea for a new food product for them and then seeing it in a supermarket. Other joys include:

  • Writing something and then receiving loads of emails from people because they’ve used that recipe so much and can’t believe how easy it was.
  • A whole lot of different things related to client success and product realization.

Amanda Hamilton: Freedom and Fulfillment in Work

I absolutely thrive on the freedom, just being able to make my own choices. It is, as you said, a lifestyle choice. Although you probably end up working slightly more hours than you did working for a corporation, you somehow don’t mind those longer hours because it’s fulfilling. It’s your own project, your own baby.

There’s also a sense of pride, I think, when you can make your own decisions.

Rob Liu: Inspiring Positive Change Through Coaching

We handle recruitment and career coaching, specifically targeting Chinese-speaking jobseekers in the UK. It presents a lot of challenges, but it is quite interesting because I really like the people element of it.

It is very inspiring to see people improve, sometimes within a quite short time. It’s good to see people making positive changes in their life.

Adam Evans: Preparing the Team for Future Success

My long-term aim is to make every single individual in this team of 30 the best they can be. This applies across all roles:

  • Marketing staff
  • Paperwork administrators
  • Visiting personnel
  • Area managers

While they are focused on the day-to-day business, I am getting their future ready, ensuring that when they arrive, there is a job there for them. That is what I enjoy; that’s one of the main things.

Harriet Barber: Working on Large-Scale Infrastructure

I like the diversity of projects because we always work with different clients and on different projects. We also work on very large-scale projects, such as:

  • Crossrail
  • The Olympics
  • Lots of urban regeneration in London

It’s exciting to see how these projects are progressing and all of the effort that goes into them. That’s really nice to see.
