Evolutionary Biology and Genetic Fundamentals

Evolution: These are processes of progressive, continuous changes in the characters of species or populations over time. Adaptation: This refers to the structural capacity of the body that allows it to live and adapt to its environment. Note: A remarkable study about something; a note or explanatory book. Objection or warning.

Genetic Mechanisms and Heredity

Mutation: It has its origin in sudden changes that take place at the gene or chromosome level. Genes: Every human being has approximately 30,000 genes that determine the growth, development, and functioning of our physical and biochemical systems. Chromosomes: The core of every human sex cell contains 23 chromosomes. DNA: It is constituted by a large number of nucleotides bound and arranged in helices (Deoxyribonucleic acid). RNA: This consists of a large number of nucleotides joined in a linear fashion (Ribonucleic acid).

Cellular Structures and Biological Kingdoms

Protists: These have a simple structure. Many others will be organized into single-cell colonies but have no specialized tissues. Eukaryotes: These are cells or unicellular organisms that have a nucleus separated from the cytoplasm by a nuclear membrane.

The Five Biological Kingdoms

  • Protist Kingdom
  • Fungi Kingdom
  • Vegetable Kingdom
  • Monera Kingdom
  • Animal Kingdom

Taxonomy and Metabolic Processes

Taxonomy: This is the branch of biology that deals with the classification of animals and plants. Aerobic: This involves using oxygen as a hydrogen acceptor. Anaerobic: This process is carried out without the use of oxygen as a hydrogen acceptor. Mitosis: The cell division rate in stem cells resulting in daughter cells.

Genetics, Reproduction, and Speciation

Phenotypes: The phenotype is the expression of the genotype in a given environment. Genotype: This is the specific genetic content (genome) of an individual in the form of DNA. Along with environmental variation that influences the individual, it codes the phenotype of the individual. Meiosis: It is a form of cell reproduction. Characters: A character is one of the features of a living being.

Species Classification and Energy Production

Speciation: Speciation is the process by which a population of a species gives rise to one or more populations, reproductively isolated from each other and with respect to the original population. Species: The basic unit of biological classification; it is the group of organisms that can breed and produce fertile offspring. Gland: This is the metabolic pathway responsible for oxidizing and fermenting glucose to provide energy for cells.
