A Discussion Essay: Technology and Nature
Although technology brings many benefits, there are times when it may not seem to be in harmony with nature.
The Benefits of Technological Advancement
On the one hand, technology has brought many advances in areas such as health and communications. For example:
- People are living longer than in the past.
- We are able to communicate with each other more cheaply and more easily.
- Science and technology are increasingly used for the development of eco-friendly products and for the protection of the environment.
Potential Risks to the Environment
On the other hand, it sometimes seems that research and development in some areas can be harmful to nature. Key concerns include:
- The toxic waste which is produced by some industries.
- Issues regarding bioengineering and whether it is morally right to interfere with the genes of organisms.
Conclusion on Technology
So, despite the advantages which technology brings, there are still problems which need to be addressed. All in all, however, I believe that these issues can be resolved with better regulations and supervision, and that technology is not an enemy of nature if it is properly controlled.
An Opinion Essay: The Value of Animal Charities
These days, there are several charities and other organizations which raise awareness about animal rights and which try to defend and protect animals in different ways. In my opinion, these objectives are both humane and important. They are certainly not a waste of time or money.
Why Animal Charities Matter
There are several reasons why these organizations are essential for a civilized society:
- Legal Defense: Animals have rights and they need someone to defend those rights. Governments do not always have laws to protect all types of animals, so we need to campaign on their behalf.
- Financial Support: Looking after endangered or threatened animals is costly, so we should help to fund this worthwhile activity.
- Public Awareness: The work of animal charities makes people more aware of animal rights, which in turn makes our society more civilized.
Final Thoughts on Animal Advocacy
So, all in all, I think that there are several good reasons to disagree with the statement that animal charities are wasting time and money. On the contrary, it would appear that they are very important for our global community.
