Balancing Family Responsibilities and Household Chores
Caring for Aging Parents
It is said that people are not used to looking after their parents when they get older. However, parents tend to look after their children for many years. Parents allow us to study because they pay for our education. Moreover, if we have a problem, they are likely to help us. The food we eat is paid for by our parents too; living with parents is like staying in a hotel.
Nevertheless, when parents are old, children often do not look after them because it is very difficult. A lot of time is needed, and young people often lack that time. In the past, children looked after their parents, but this has changed. In conclusion, parents are less and less helped by their children, even though the parents helped them. If we do not help our parents, we will not feel like good people. I believe parents should be helped.
Managing Household Chores
Jobs around the house are easy for me. I am used to helping at home, but it is said that young people dislike household chores. I spend a lot of time on housework. I prefer doing the laundry, cooking, and tidying the house. I tend to cook because my mother works a lot and she does not have time. I am keen on cooking rice and meat, but I hate tidying the kitchen when I finish.
I am bad at shopping for groceries, making the beds, and ironing clothes. I spend a lot of time on these chores because I do not like them. If I look after my brother, I do not enjoy it because he is difficult and I cannot control him. In short, I am fond of jobs around the house, but I dislike some household chores. I encourage people to help at home, and I wish I liked all household chores.
Gender Roles in the Home
It is said that women are expected to work at home, while men do not tend to do household chores. Looking after children, cooking, making the beds, or doing the laundry are said to be common for women. Women spend a lot of hours on household chores. Moreover, when women become mothers, they have to look after the baby and sometimes they stop working because they do not have time.
Focusing on men, they are used to doing small repairs around the house. Sometimes they think that if you are a woman, you are not able to do small repairs. Furthermore, if they are fathers, they continue working. They go to work and, when they finish, they refuse to do household chores. I think it is not very common for men to look after children. To sum up, men's and women's roles at home should change. Men and women should spend the same amount of time on household chores.
