Award-Winning Climate Change Documentary: Insights from Spain
Award-Winning Climate Change Documentary
The documentary produced by the environmental NGO in collaboration with the Boreal Chamber highlights the local effects of climate change. After participating in the International Film Festival for the Environment (FICMA) in Barcelona and the Environmental Film Festival Accra (EFFA), the project has won a prestigious prize in Pamplona.
The film consists of four short segments that offer diverse perspectives from Spanish society, providing a unique and comprehensive look at the climate crisis.
Educational Impact in Navarre
The documentary is now part of the official educational curriculum in Navarre, designed to raise awareness among young people. One segment specifically emphasizes the role of students in addressing global warming and developing solutions to this urgent challenge.
Urgent Action Against Global Warming
With CO2 concentrations continuing to rise, the window to drastically reduce emissions has shortened to between 4 and 10 years. Liliane Spendeler, Secretary General of Friends of the Earth, explains the origin of the project:
"Manual for a Spacecraft arises from inquiring into the experiences and views of people facing this challenge, acknowledging that the Mediterranean is one of the regions most threatened by climate change."
Diverse Perspectives on a Changing Climate
While the causes of climate change are scientifically clear, the reality of warming is felt differently across various sectors. The documentary features valuable testimonies from:
- Agriculture: Producers from Castile discussing temperature and rainfall imbalances.
- Fisheries: Galician fishermen reporting shifts in marine conditions.
These personal accounts provide specific, lived evidence of environmental shifts that cannot be ignored.
A Call to Stewardship
We do not need to look only at melting poles to recognize climate change; we must observe our immediate surroundings. By weaving together themes of art, youth, nature, and consumer society, the documentary delivers a powerful message: we are astronauts on a spacecraft without a manual, and we must learn to be responsible pilots of Spaceship Earth.
