Starlight's Promise: Finding Strength Together

Latin3.11 KB

Starlight's Promise: Finding Strength Together

The stars look down

Through Darkness and Despair

Through the dark, and through the hunger,
Through the night and through the fear.
Through the fight and years of hardship,
Through the storms and through the tears.

Unwavering Spirit, United We Stand

And although your feet are weary,
And although your soul is worn,
And although they'll try to break you,
And although you'll feel alone.

We will always stand together, in the dark, right through the storm,
We will stand shoulder to shoulder, to keep us warm.

Stars Witness Our Journey, Guide Our Future

And the stars look down on the mean and hungry,
And the stars look down and show the way.
And the stars look down and will stand together,
To see a day when...

The Carolingian Empire and Early Medieval Art

Latin4.24 KB

The Carolingian Empire

The Frankish Kingdom

The Franks settled in Gaul after the fall of the Western Roman Empire. The region was initially governed by warlords until Clovis unified the Gallo-Roman peoples and the Franks. He famously defeated the Visigoths at the Battle of Vouillé.

Mayors of the Palace

The successors of Clovis largely left the government in the hands of the Mayors of the Palace. Notably, Charles Martel stopped the Muslim advance into Europe at the decisive Battle of Poitiers.

The Carolingian Dynasty

Pepin the Short founded the Carolingian dynasty. He allied with Pope Stephen in the fight against the Lombards, who had invaded Italy. In return for the Pope's support, Pepin the Short granted him the Papal Domains, laying the foundation...

Modernism and the Generation of '98: Key Differences

The late nineteenth century saw a profound renewal in art and thought across Europe and America. This period fostered two major literary movements in the Spanish-speaking world: Modernism and the Generation of '98. While both movements sought to break with previous aesthetics (like Realism and Naturalism), they differed significantly in style, focus, and approach to Spanish reality.

Understanding Modernism

Modernism was a literary movement that began in the late nineteenth century, breaking away from the prevailing aesthetics of Realism and Naturalism. It synthesized elements from French literary schools:

Latin2.66 KB

The Vision of Federico García Lorca

For Federico García Lorca, theater was not merely a show to "kill time," but a space to reflect the life of a people. He achieved this by addressing a major conflict present in all his works: the clash between freedom and the principle of authority. This conflict is embodied in a series of symbols that characterize the poetic language used by Lorca, as his work is fundamentally a poetic drama.

The Five Stages of Lorca's Theater

1. Poetic Symbolism

The Curse of the Butterfly is a symbolic drama in verse that introduces the theme of impossible love hindered by social conventions.

2. Historical Drama

In 1927, Mariana Pineda premiered, recreating the historical figure of the heroine from Granada who was executed...
