Relative or differential pressure: This takes into account the atmospheric pressure. Temperature: K = 273 ° + °C. Performance: Utilization relationship between the magnitude and extent consumed, expressed in %. Boyle's Law - Mariotte: The volume occupied by a mass of gas at constant temperature is inversely proportional to the supporting pressure. Charles's Law: The volumes occupied by a mass of gas at constant pressure are directly proportional to temperature variations. Gay-Lussac's Law: At constant volume, the pressure of a gas is directly proportional to temperature variations. Combined or General Law:

How Rocks and Earth's Spheres Form and Composition

Geology3.14 KB

How Are Rocks Formed

They're made of minerals.

Three Main Types of Rocks

  • Sedimentary
  • Igneous or magmatic
  • Metamorphic

Foam Silica

It forms a crust that insulates the atmosphere from the heat of magma. Therefore the atmosphere formed; condensed oxygen mixed with hydrogen gave rise to the ocean water.

Hydrosphere

It is a liquid sheath 3 km thick, and strong pressures produced by the stratification of rocks of crystalline structure form slowly. Primitive crustal rocks are known as crystalline schists. Gases released from the Earth's interior helped to solidify the molten silicates.

Atmosphere

Gases released from the Earth's interior helped to solidify the molten silicates.

Lithosphere

It consists mostly of silica and aluminum. It is the outermost layer of Earth'

Weather, Climate, and Environmental Degradation Factors

Geology2.38 KB

Weather

Weather is one of the most influential factors in the distribution of living beings on Earth. It is defined as the combination of meteorological phenomena that determine the atmospheric conditions characterizing a place.

Weather Elements

  • Air Temperature: The amount of heat contained in the atmosphere at a given time, measured with a thermometer.
  • Barometric Pressure: The weight of air exerted on Earth's surface, varying according to temperature and measured using a barometer.
  • Wind: The movement of air caused by differences in temperature and atmospheric pressure.
  • Atmospheric Moisture: The amount of water contained in the lower layers of the atmosphere, measured with a hygrometer. Clouds form from this moisture.
  • Rainfall: The amount of precipitation

Natural Resources: Definition and Global Significance

Natural resources are all components and elements of nature that serve living beings to meet their needs and promote the development of our communities.

A Mega-Diverse Nation: Global Biodiversity Highlights

This country stands out as a mega-diverse nation, boasting remarkable biodiversity statistics:

  • 4th in the world for life zones (84 of 117 global zones).
  • Among the top 17 mega-diverse countries.
  • 4th in forest area.
  • Home to 25,000 species of flora (10% of the world total), with 30% of these species being endemic.
  • 5th globally in the total number of species.
  • 1st in the world for known and utilized plant species (4,400 species used for 49 different purposes).

Wastewater Purification Methods

Geology2.76 KB

Wastewater Treatment

Wastewater treatment is a widely used plant purification method. Separating gray water from black water (sewage) can reduce costs, as can removing detergents and oils. Purifying water involves a series of physical and chemical processes, which vary depending on the order in which they are applied.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Classification

  • Primary Treatment: Primarily removes inorganic solids, often with the aid of adjuvants.
  • Secondary Treatment: Removes organic matter using microorganisms.
  • Tertiary Treatment: Eliminates specific components or purifies microorganisms.

Primary Treatment Processes

Sand Chamber

Mineral residue is removed.

Sedimentation

After removing mineral waste, water passes through a sedimentation tank where organic...

Temperature Sensing Devices: Thermocouples and Thermistors

Geology2.79 KB

Unit 1. Temperature Sensing Devices

Thermocouple

A thermocouple is a device made by joining two dissimilar metals that produces a voltage (Seebeck effect), which is a function of the temperature difference between one end called the "hot junction" and another called the "cold junction" or reference junction. In industrial instrumentation, thermocouples are widely used as temperature sensors. They are inexpensive, interchangeable, have standard connectors, and are capable of measuring a wide range of temperatures.

Selection of wires is based on:

  • Resistance to corrosion, oxidation, and reduction.
  • Crystallization stability.
  • Relatively high EMF stability.
  • Lower cost.
  • Low electrical resistance.
  • EMF rise parallels the rise of temperature ($\text{T}^{\circ}

Food Additives, Packaging, and Processing Explained

Geology3.45 KB

Understanding Food Additives

Food additives are approved substances intentionally added in small quantities to food and beverages. Their purpose is not to change the nutritional value but to modify technical characteristics for development, preservation, and appeal.

Substances Altering Organoleptic Properties

These additives modify properties like color, taste, and smell to make a food product more attractive to consumers.

Sweeteners

Sweeteners are used to flavor sweet foods. Some may be natural or synthetic, such as saccharin and cyclamate.

Flavorings

Flavorings provide olfactory properties and, eventually, taste. They can be of natural or synthetic origin and are found in various products like soft drinks and soups.

Flavor Enhancers

Flavor enhancers...

Earth's Surface Convection: Magnetism, Volcanism, and Tectonics

Geology2.83 KB

Manifestations of Convective Motions on Earth's Surface

Terrestrial Magnetism

Its origin is linked to the violent convection currents excited by the liquid outer core at temperatures of thousands of degrees.

Movement of Continents

Convective motions occur within Earth's mantle, driving horizontal movement across the mantle's surface.

Volcanism

Heat transport from the base of the mantle to the most superficial layers of the land gives rise to volcanic mountain ranges.

Seismicity

Movements of the ocean floor and continents involve large fractures in the lithosphere, causing earthquakes.

Segregation of Materials by Density

Less dense materials are brought to the surface, causing the formation of the granitic continental crust.

Convection Movements

These consist...
