Operating System Concepts: Processes, Memory, Scheduling & Security

Computer science2.69 KB

Operating System Concepts and Core Functions

Process Management

Process management involves managing the execution of programs (processes), including creation, scheduling, termination, and communication between processes.

Memory Management

Memory management requires the OS to allocate and manage memory resources efficiently for different processes. This includes virtual memory techniques and page-replacement algorithms.

CPU Scheduling

CPU scheduling determines which process gets access to the CPU at any given time. Effective scheduling is crucial for system performance and fairness. Common algorithms include:

  • Round Robin (RR)
  • Shortest Job First (SJF)
  • First-Come, First-Served (FCFS)

Inter-Process Communication (IPC)

Inter-process communication (IPC) enables...

Digital Electronics CIE-1 Exam Preparation

Computer science4.49 KB

Here is a complete and concise answer sheet for your Digital Electronics CIE-1 preparation based on your questions:

1. Design Half and Full Subtractor with Truth Table

Half Subtractor

  • Inputs: A, B
  • Outputs: Difference (D), Borrow (Bo)
  • Logic Equations:
    • Difference (D) = A ⊕ B
    • Borrow (Bo) = A' · B

Full Subtractor

  • Inputs: A, B, Bin (Borrow In)
  • Outputs: Difference (D), Borrow Out (Bo)
  • Logic Equations:
    • D = A ⊕ B ⊕ Bin
    • Bo = B · Bin + B · A' + A' · Bin

2. Working of Adder and Subtractor

Adder Circuits

  • Half Adder: Adds two bits A and B.
    • Sum = A ⊕ B, Carry = A · B
  • Full Adder: Adds three bits A, B, and Cin.
    • Sum = A ⊕ B ⊕ Cin, Cout = AB + ACin + BCin

Subtractor Circuits

  • Half Subtractor: Subtracts B from A.
    • Difference = A ⊕ B, Borrow = A' · B
  • Full Subtractor:

Java Code Examples: User Name Generation and Repair Scheduling

Computer science6.34 KB

This document presents Java code snippets demonstrating two distinct functionalities: user name generation and management, and a car repair scheduling system. Each section includes method implementations with explanations of their purpose and logic.

User Name Management System

The UserName class is designed to generate and manage potential user names based on a user's first and last names. It also provides functionality to filter out names that are already in use.

UserName Class Constructor

This constructor initializes a UserName object, populating a list of possible user names. It assumes that firstName and lastName are valid strings containing only letters and have a length greater than zero.

import java.util.ArrayList;

public class UserName {

Object Identifier (OID) Explained

OID stands for Object Identifier, which is a unique identifier assigned to each object in an object-oriented database (OODB).

Function and Structure of OIDs

In an OODB, data is stored as objects that have properties (attributes) and behaviors (methods). Each object is assigned a unique OID that identifies it uniquely within the database. OIDs are used to reference objects and to establish relationships between them.

For example, if one object in a database needs to refer to another object, it can do so using the OID of the other object. This helps to establish relationships between objects and enables the creation of more complex data structures.

OID vs. Primary Key

OIDs in database management systems are similar...
