A gland is a group of cells that are specialized to secrete a useful substance such as hormone (the pancreas secretes insulin). Hypothalamus: produces hormones that control the pituitary gland. Pituitary gland: “master gland”, releases hormones to control other glands in the endocrine system. Pineal gland: responsible for the production of melatonin, which plays a role in the control of sleep. Thyroid gland: produces hormones such as thyroxine, controls the body’s metabolic rate, as well as growth. Parathyroid glands: produces hormones called the parathyroid hormone, this helps control the level of minerals such as calcium within the body. Adrenal glands: produce hormones such as adrenaline, in order to stimulate the body. Pancreas: releases the hormones insulin and glucagon, regulate blood sugar level. Ovaries (female): produce sex hormones, reproduction and secondary sexual characteristics (testosterone and oestrogen). Testes (male): produce sex hormones, reproduction and secondary sexual characteristics (testosterone).

Biopsychology is all about how biology influences behavior in humans and other animals. Study things like the nervous system, neurons, neurotransmitters, brain circuitry, hormones and the biological processes that underlie normal and abnormal behavior.

FIGHT OR FLIGHT: It is a biological response of the body, ir order to prepare itself against a threat or a dangerous situation.

HORMONES: are chemical molecules that are transported by the circulatory system to target distant organs for physiological and behavioral regulation. Many are proteins or peptides (insulin) and others steroids (progesterone).
