Kinetic and Potential energy:
Kinetic: ENERGY THAT IS BEING USED/IN MOTION
ELECTRICAL; caused by movements of electrons (lightening, electricity)
RADIANT; energy from wave of electromagnetic spectrum (xray,light)
THERMAL; heat, causd by movement in atoms and molecules within a substance (fire, the sun)
MOTION; caused by objects/substances that are moving (waves, wind, tide)
POTENTIAL ENERGY:
Energy that is not being used yet. Energy out of position.
CHEMICAL;energy stored in bonds between molecules and atoms
when bonds break they release heat etc. EX COAL, OIL, FOOD
STORED MECHANICAL: energy found in objects that want to bounce back into natural shape when stretched or squished EX STRING, RUBBER BAND, SPRING
NUCLEAR:energy that holds together the nucleas of an atom. Realesed only during fission or fusion.
GRAVITATIONAL:
energy stored in an object because of where it is placed. EX water behind dam, car on the top of a hill.
3. Missy Diwater, the former platform diver for the Ringling Brother's Circus, had a kinetic energy of 12 000 J just prior to hitting the bucket of water. If Missy's mass is 40 kg, then what is her speed?
V=ke/0.5m
A cart is loaded with a brick and pulled at constant speed along an inclined plane to the height of a seat-top. If the mass of the loaded cart is 3.0 kg and the height of the seat top is 0.45 meters, then what is the potential energy of the loaded cart at the height of the seat-top
E = m*g*h
PE = (3 kg ) * (9.8 m/s/s) * (0.45 m)
PE = 13.2 J
KE = 0.5mass x velocity^2 PE = weight x height
Velocity = 9.8 x time weight = 9.8 x mass mech.Energ= KE + PE
